Lilly last year really stood out for me. Especially near the end of the season. When he didn't play in the playoffs... that sucked.

I have high hopes for this kid. Seems to have the right attitude.

I'm still rooting for Sandin too but right now Lilly seems to bring more of what the Leafs need.

Itll be tough to come into a game like this but really glad he's back. This season could be huge for him to really solidify a top 4 spot for years to come.
Agree we really need him to pick off where left off. I honestly think the reason why we lost to TB is because they took him out of the line up and we didn’t have three pairs of D that each had a PMD.

Rielly Lyubushkin
Gio Brodie
Muzzin Liljegren
Holl

That being said have him start the season with Gio on the bottom pairing to let the kid get some games under his belt.

I think he was with Mo already at practice though yesterday so may be throwing him to the wolves. Think they had it...

Mo Lilly
Brodie Holl
Gio Sandin

Still annoyed Holl is in top 4. They just don't have the options I guess. He should sit for a game though at least and let Mete in again. Might do Holl some good.

Sorry back to Lilly lol but yeah glad he's back forsure.

Leafs are so lucky to have him, especially for just 1.4 million

-1st on the team (among regular defensemen) in 5v5 goals and primary points despite only 11 games played
-1st in 5v5 goal differential (69.2 GF%)
-1st in 5v5 high danger differential (55.7 HDCF%)
-fewest high danger chances/60 given up on the PK

Also the Leafs are 7-1-3 with him in the lineup

Tavares underlying stats for his last game were bad too. You play the game on the ice not the stats sheet.

The guy coaching him begs to differ.
The guy coaching him has been out-coached in every NHL playoff series he's been a part of. His opinion and the way he treats his younger players means nothing

Rasmus clearly the better player makes the same money a travesty
What? A blind man can see Rasmus is not even the best AHL dman the Leafs have. Sandin has no business on a cup contenders top 6. Lilly plays like shit with out a vet, he plays like a legit NHLer with a vet like Gio. The gulf in skill between Lilly the better dman and the soon to be playing in the SEL Sandin is as wide as the Atlantic ocean

His opinion is how you get ice time, so clearly it means a lot. To say it means "nothing" is more a commentary on your hockey knowledge than it is a truthful statement.

sandin and lily have played together for like a dozens games now (we are talking significant 20min a night) and have been phenomenal.
Ur opinions are garbage

Right the multiple gift away Sandin does each night that result in a goal or a great scoring chance for the opponents are a figment of my imagination. Get a clue buddy. Sandin has no business being in a NHL jersey.

Lilly has played 14 games and you're claiming they have been D partners for 12 of those? Lies, lies, lies.

You've demonstrated that you don't get hockey, so just for you I will explain the concept of ATOI because the coach has no other choice vs ATOI that is based on merit. Ask yourself would Lilly and Sandin get 20 min a night if Riley, Muz and Brodie are healthy? Of course they wouldn't. Mentioning they are getting 20 min a night as if its an accomplishment , is more a commentary about your understanding (or lack of) of the game vs an accomplishment by Sandin/Lilly. It is an empty stat. Do you know who else has played 20 minutes a night in a Leafs jersey this year Benn and Holl, they must be elite defenders too ... OMGzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz How did we get 4 elite defenders overnight? OMGZZZZZZZZZZZZ.

BTW Sandin is Swedish for "Take my lunch"

Did i say elite ? U do realize there is a huge zone between (your opinion) garbage and elite.. according to u a player has to be elite or hes garbage.

And u know u could .. i dont know do some actual f'en research on litterally anything before posting an opinion ?
Lilly and sandin have been paired together the second most amount of minutes on the leafs .. they have also the second best underlying defensive metrics overall ... oh and guess whos first ? Sandin and giordano ... ffs ...
I could go on and on but u get the point .....

Yes ur opinions are total garbage ... a player has 1 giveaway 2 months ago and u think thats all the player is ....

He's too important to be a cap casualty, but I wouldn't be opposed to signing him long-term and getting it out of the way

See if we can get him at like 4-4.5 x 8. We know he'll be a top 4 RHD for a long time
This is a 2 million dollar defenceman that you want to reward with 8 years of term at more than double that amount? He's a 2nd/3rd pairing defenceman with all the physicality of a soggy noodle, and deserves to be paid as such. Kyle really isn't in a position to sacrifice that much cap space long term just to lock up what is clearly the bottom half of his lineup. We went through this already with Zaitsev, have you learned nothing?

There were a couple of plays out there where Liljegren looked absolutely high end in transition and definitely appreciated him taking Kucherov out into the end wall.

He's a really good d man and has handled tough mins well. You can keep up your narrative though, because your biases have been clear from the start. Comparing him to Zaitsev proves it.

Biega is going to have that spot and it won't be cap related. Liljegren simply hasn't stepped up and taken a job. Biega looks dependable and strong so far, 2 things Lilly has never been described as. Lilly seems like a puck moving defenceman who can't get the puck himself to move it. It's a fire drill in his own end every shift, and the production on the other side simply isn't there to justify putting up with it. This kid is waiver bait when he's eligible for it.
There is also this
We all know not to take you seriously on this player

Comparing Liljergen to Zaitsev says it all lmao

Lilly has all the tools of a good modern defenseman. Smooth skater, good puck mover, responsible defensively, decent point shot. His strength isn't bad, either

You can see he will be a good player in this league for a long time. 4-4.5 million is a worthy gamble for a guy who will likely end up being at least a top 4 RHD. These are the types of moves contenders make to ensure they get important players on their team for cheaper deals
