Stothers would be fun for post game quotes but I’d prefer a complete *****ing of the entire coaching staff including the AHL. I know people like Sturm but I don’t know. Whats he currently in charge of? Whatever it is, it sucks too.

EDIT - Wow you can’t say *****e Ok, I should have said “I’d prefer a complete vaginal cleansing of the entire coaching staff”. Sorry, I didn’t know we couldn’t say *****e.

Supposedly Sturm is in charge of defense - at least according to a quote (yesterday?) from Blake. Don't know what other responsibilities he may have on top of that.

Lowry runs the d unless things have changed?

I went back and checked - I thought it was in a quote from Blake, but it was mentioned in passing by Lisa Dillman when quoting Sturm about Fantenberg's departure (Athletic article yesterday, "We're All Playing for Jobs Here")

“I was very sad today that he left,” said Kings assistant coach Marco Sturm, who runs the defense. “He went from a healthy scratch to one of our better defensemen. On this team, I think that says it all.”

Well Lowry ran the d before IIRC. Seems kind of stupid to switch it up when Sturm was brought it but who knows with these jagaloons.

After all those goals the Kings have been force-fed lately, I thought our D was run by champion hot dog eater Takeru Kobayashi.

How soon is SKA St. Petersburg's season over? Looking forward to getting Nikolai Prokhorkin signed and at training camp 2019. Also, looking forward to finding out which NCAA and European UFA's they are planning to pursue. I am hearing really good things about Ilya Mikheyev, Max Veronneau, Ryan Kuffner and Oliwer Kaski.....

Read somewhere Prokhorkin's team just began playoffs - 7 game series and they lost game one.

This off season is going to be a lot of fun. I think Blake is up to the challenge of getting this team rebuilt and reenergized. He was a passionate and tough player. He had a mean streak and understood the importance of the players ALWAYS sticking up for each other. I think he's finally showing how genuinely fed up he is with this teams pathetic compete level. The Kings need the right coach and a serious recommitment by the veterans to be in shape and mentally prepared for a very challenging next season.

On the other hand, a Jeff Carter buyout (should they fail to find a trade suitor) appears intriguing given how much they would be saving.
Jeff Carter Contract Buyout Details - CapFriendly - NHL Salary Caps
The cap penalty in the last three years are at the league minimum salary.
The Kings would be saving $2 million next year and $1 million the last two years. Hardly seems worth it. Over the six years, the Kings would save a measly $2.3 million total. Might as well let him play it out.

I like the idea of Keefe as well. My concern is if the "core" would buy into him. I'd like to think it wouldn't be an issue, but the pessimist in me has put in some doubt. Maybe going forward there's new names wearing those letters. Thinking that would be the prudent thing to do.

Absolutely worth it. The Kings cannot compete with 77 on the team. They are 3-1-2 when he's been out. (Tampa Bay-Like record) #1 priority is a new NHL coach and #2 priority is remove 77 in way way that can be accomplished, including buyout. It's not fair to the team or the fans to ice him anymore. I would personally send $160, toward the buyout, or whatever my NHL centre ice fee is, as I can barely watch Kings games any more...for the first time since 1973, when they had 12 games on a year on Channel 9. Watching Marc Potvin, Patrice Tardiff, Roman Vopat, Brad Selwood, And even Craig Johnson was infinitely better...at least they tried and gave a shttt

This I agree with.
Retain 50% and move him to a place he wants to play if anything, but even then better to just play him on the 3rd line.

Offense
Unless Brodz shows something the rest of this season, I think he is gone. Lewis too, I've always thought Lewis would end up in Buffalo.

I don't see anyone trading for Carter and I wouldn't retain or throw a high pick away trying to get rid of him. The best thing would be for him to come back next season and be a solid player. Toss him on the wing and hope he can pot 20 goals again and not be a defensive liability. If that doesn't work, hopefully he comes down with a rash and we can LTIR him.

We'll see if Prokhorkin actually comes over this year. He could potentially line up as the 2/3 line center, putting him on a line with Kovi could help both of them out. SKA is down 0-2 in the first round of playoffs, not sure how it would work if we signed him to a contract could they get him in some games this season? He could be available as soon as next week.

If Porky doesn't come over, I hope that one of JAD/Kupari could come in and take the 4th line center spot to start the season and eventually work their way up the lineup.

I would think that Luff, Wagner, and Amadio would be regulars. Maybe Grundstrom will get a call up before the season is over and see where/if he slots in.

Mixed feelings on Toffoli, part of me hopes he can bounce back, part of me wants to trade him to get a real D partner for Doughty.

Mixed feelings on Clifford, is there another forward that can play a regular shift that has balls? If not keep him.

I have no problem keeping Kovalchuk. He needs to be used correctly.

Defence
Trade Forbort and LaDue.

They need to get a legit partner for Doughty. Either through a trade or free agent signing. If there was someone in the system they think would work, bring him up before the season is done to make sure. No more 24-8 pairing

I like Walker, if he can partner with Martinez I think the second pair will be ok. Martinez needs to stay healthy. Probably traded at the next deadline unless he can be part of a package for a big piece sooner.

Roy is growing on me, could be good. Phaneuf isn't going anywhere. Lets see how MacD does. Brick/Clague/Strand will be on those guys heels if they F up.

Durzi/Phillips will need some AHL time. If he's developing well, let Mikey Anderson stay in college and get stronger.

Bring Hextall in to do what though? I don't think Blake would ever do this, so unless you're firing Robitaille (I am all for it), and replacing Blake with Hextall, I don't see where Hextall fits.

To replace Richard Seeley. Instill a winning culture back in the farm systems and eventually move up to the big club. If Blake is worried about losing his job, then what does that tell you about him and his job performance.

I think Brodz is a catch 22 because if he DOES play well someone else will likely try to sign him as well since he's a class infinity free agent, and if he doesn't play well, why do we want him?

If Dante Fabbro isn't signed by Nashville by June 1, he becomes a UFA. That's a guy that may be worth approaching Nashville on a trade.

Some Kings nuggets that could impact the off-season plans...

21. There was hope Los Angeles would drop its price on Tyler Toffoli, but the Kings did not. It is believed they were asking for a first-rounder and a good prospect, at least. With another year remaining on his contract, they hope he can regain his 31-goal form.

22. One opponent was not surprised Jonathan Quick was the King to get upset during Tuesday’s ugly 6-1 loss in Carolina.
“Don’t care how bad the season is going,” he said, “Quick is always going to demand the best of himself, and everyone around him. I don’t think that outburst was solely about not challenging goalie interference.”
