was really surprised to see him start hitting and being a bit grimey lately

really didn't expect him to be much more than a speedy soft winger but if he's willing to hit and fight a bit he's much more valuable

He fought a few times in Ontario last season. He wasn't a wallflower in the WHL either.

Part of the reason why I've always been excited about him is that he isn't just wimpy speed but speed and a little bit of jam. It's why I've always thought he'd make the NHL in a 4th line role at minimum.

I've never been more excited with an acquisition than I was with Kovalchuk. Mike Richards being a close 2nd.

I f***ing hate WD with a passion. If we don't get a top 2 pick this will all have been a waste.

Imagine getting called up and asking the coach which line you'll be playing on and he points to the empty bench.

Well, I don't blame Kovy for doing that.

How I read that is Blake is emphatically denying that Kovy is being disciplined.

Coach doesn't want to play him.

Not going to make him travel to Canada just to be scratched 3 times and potentially embarrassed in the Canadian press.

What sucks is that Kovalchuk was playing great to begin the season, wasn't he on a point per game pace through the first 14 games or so?

If Kovy decides to pack his bags and move back home permanently, the Kings will still have his full $6.25m cap hit on the books for 2 more seasons.

Kovalchuk isn't going back to the KHL. Him and his family are at least enjoying life here. The Kings need to find a competent coach who knows how to use a player like him.

When your second highest scoring winger has 31 f***ing points, and you don't use the forward who has the third best points per game average on your team, then chances are that you likely have an incompetent coach behind your bench.

You gotta think Kovy is done after this season.....he will waive to go anywhere......ANA etc.

But will anyone else want him for the next 2 years? He's likely stuck in LA if he wants to play in the NHL.

What a waste of time for Amadio.

Like with the rest of the call ups that don't play, his next paycheck will be whatever % of hundreds of thousands instead of tens of thousands. At the very least, Blake is financially rewarding the guys playing well in Ontario. Independent of whatever WD is doing. Everyone is just collecting a paycheck this year.

WD is out to ****ing lunch but maybe this mandate of not playing Kovy is coming from above? I dont get it

Who was talking about WD and Kovalchuk in the Olympics or whatever tournament earlier this year? Where Kovalchuk did something, and WD probably didn't like it? It's fully possible WD just doesn't like him, or Russian players. Or young players.

He's got the signing bonus of $5.3m come July 1st I guess. Maybe he retires on July 2nd? He'll give up about $5m if he does.

If Kovy decides to pack his bags and move back home permanently, the Kings will still have his full $6.25m cap hit on the books for 2 more seasons.

Which doesn't matter, because they'll suck anyway.

Drew Doughty with a hot take. Now let's see MacDermid take Tkachuk's head off.

Any potential between those two is the only reason to watch. My goodness, could this team and season use a bench clearing brawl. Likely absolutely nothing happens, and everyone just skates around not trying to get hurt. Calgary has the playoffs to get ready for, and who on the Kings wants to spend their long summer rehabbing some pointless injury? But yeah, emotion, stick work, cheap shots, sweep the leg, at least it would be something.

It's why I compared him to Chris Kreider for a long time even back to his junior days.

Speed and grit

The Kings need to bring Tom Webster back behind the bench for tonight, just so that he could pop Tkachuk in the mouth to incite a bench-clearing brawl.

They even held Leipsic back from this trip. I guess the Kings must be hurting for cash and cut some travel expenses by not having some healthy scratches travel with the team.

Remember Kings fans, place your season ticket deposits now and get first dibs on those nonexistent playoff tickets for next year.

Tkachuk won't fight MacDermid. He's too smart/weasel-like. They're in the hunt for the cup, he's not going to risk getting hurt in a game against one of the worst teams in the league two weeks before the playoffs start.

It's kind of funny how much Tkachuk is in Doughty's head. Like man, move on already.

The situation is so ridiculous that I really have to believe at this point that the only possible explanation is that Blake is making WD be the fall guy here, trying to get Kovalchuck to hate the situation so badly that he asks to get out and save Blake from the remainder of his contract.

Yeah I think they should've worked on a better lie than to work on his skills and development for a 35 year old goal scorer with 8 games left in the season. That's pathetic
