Plan B for Fixing Penn Station Would Wrap Madison Square Garden in Glass

So what happened at today's public hearing regarding the MSG vs Pennsylvania Station thingy?

I'm late to this thread, but boy, this article needed a proofreader and editor.

I seriously doubt Dolan's claim that MSG has been cooperating with MTA and NJT. At the same time, MTA calling MSG not compatible with modern times should look in the mirror. As it happens I'm watching a documentary called End of the Line about the subway system's decline.

The MTA is the biggest shitshow in government. I can't believe there are idiots who think congestion pricing will "help" fix an unfixable budget for an agency that operates with no accountability, that is full of inept people making decisions up and down the organization. It truly is remarkable.

Can't wait to see in 10 years when they're pushing to make the congestion pricing zone south of 96th Street.

I'm no Dolan fan, but the MTA basically took 50 years to open 3 stations of the Second Avenue Subway and can't figure out how to ever have enough active duty employees to appropriately cover train and bus runs that have barely changed in decades. I have little to no faith in their ability to envision a capital project such as "new" Penn Station that isn't an immediate pissing of taxpayer dollars down the drain on non-functional aesthetics and bad contractors that need to immediately redo work that is less than 5 years old, and that's after it opens a decade late at 4x the original cost.

10 more years!

According to the article, it's not a done deal yet.

The City Planning Commission is scheduled to vote on the MSG special permit on Wednesday. If approved, the decision will move to the City Council for a hearing and final vote.

Permit will happen with some concessions?

At a Wednesday morning meeting, the vote was almost unanimous: Approve MSG’s special permit to continue operating its stadium above Pennsylvania Station, as long as stadium owners make public improvements around the site.

Most critically, the venue will have to prove its compatibility with the redevelopment of Penn Station once the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s planning phase for that project reaches 30 percent complete.

As part of the approval, MSG officials will need to return in front of City Planning in six months for another round to show that the public realm improvement efforts are underway.

But it isn’t a done deal.

The New York City Council will still need to vote in favor of the new terms. That vote is likely to take place before the existing permit, which was renewed in 2013, expires on July 24.

Still deciding on the permit

Jeeze 24 million a year? That's a drop in the bucket for the amount NYC wastes each year. NYC had a budget of 101 BILLION in 2021, I wonder how much of that waste wasted on silly things. Don't think they are really hurting for that 24 million a year.

Most wasteful place in America.
Now do how much they've lost in property tax revenue from incentives for developers to build ugly ass luxury towers with 5-10% "low income" apartments!
