Yea there's very little reason for VVD to have to run all the way out wide there to track an attacker. Someone from the midfield or attack needs to do that for him so VVD can stay back and Gomez doesn't end up with 3 players to mark on his own.

Edit: Watching the replay again, both Mane and Keita tracked a runner to the edge of the box and then just decided to stop instead of actually following him.

There really shouldn't.
Both teams are playing their first game and quite clearly, Liverpool didn't expect to be played that hard.
They were way too laid back which means their individual quality didn't make it easier like it should.

Still Leeds is a tough team to beat because they can score at any moment.

He’s been overly selfish. He’s had plenty of options many times but he tries way too hard to do everything himself.

Ugh Mane and Firmino should have done something there. So many wasted attacks.
