Wow, like them or not, that's a pretty significant coup IMO.

I'm interested in observing any change in tone from Yohe when the source of his paycheck changes.

I guess it shouldn't be that surprising. It sounded like Dejan was basically recruiting Yohe on twitter a few weeks ago.

I don't mind Yohe. He seems like a great guy. He isn't the most knowledgeable hockey mind but at least he doesn't work some lame schtick like Rossi.

Yeah, but who thought it would actually work?

Pretty telling that he'd leave an established newspaper gig to go write for a site run by the dude who just crapped all over his former employer and writing partner.

Kinda tells more about the direction of sports media (and print media as a whole) than it does Yohe's or DK's writing abilities. Anyone can start a website that gets more traffic than most newspapers now. Just a dying media.

All I can think is the sponsors must be paying DK big bucks. Even with loads of members and clicks, the ad revenue on a blog is just not going to be that great, at least not 'support two guys plus wife/kids plus 401K and health care' great.
Maybe their wives work full time and have the bennies tho.

Last month he hit 10,000 subscriptions. The cheapest annual subscription rate is $18 bucks($54 for 3 years). So at minimum, in subscriptions alone he's making $180,000. His subscriptions continue to rise every day and yesterday's news set him up for a record day almost. He's doing better than you think.

Sounds like a real power move he made, cool. I only follow those guys during the hockey season, living in Pittsburgh and all. My main memory of Donkey Kong was the one "column" he posted before the playoffs one year... which year was it again? When he pretty much was really confident in the Penguins and they crapped the bed. So I'm cool with him for jinxing you guys :naughty:

But what's the consensus on this man? To me, he seems like a very clever marketer and not a horrible writer, but there seems to be something about him that's just... idk.

Used to be a fan of Dejan's work when he was at the Trib, but not so much anymore. He's a little to cozy with the Penguins brass for me to take his opinion seriously.

He just posted an article that included a blurb that people don't like Moorehouse because it's an election year and Moorehouse is heavily involved in politics. I've literally never seen anyone say they dislike Moorehouse due to his political affiliation.

This is a hot take, but to me it seems like he's a paid shill for the Penguins these days.

For a guy who used to be all about 100% honesty, seems like all of the columns involve making up excuses for the Penguins incompetence.

For me, the whole Rossi/JR situation was a big tell. You can tell that he's firmly in the Penguins back pocket these days.

It boggles my mind how people pay $ to essentially read talking points straight from the Penguins corporate offices.

You rarely hear him talking about solutions, or proposed ideas/trades.. just lots of defending indefensible moves.

I'm sure Morehouse is in full damage control right now - dishing off talking points to Dejan to stop the bleeding. He knows a lot of yinzers treat whatever Dejan says like it's the bible, so might as well use him as a messenger to communicate his talking points.

As much as it pains me to admit this, Dejan is becoming the blogger equivalent of Steiggy

It's said on this forum, pay attention

"Pens organization is a joke, run by clowns, a career politician is running the show"

I see that comment every now and again.

I'm also pretty sure he posted something saying fans hated the Despres trade because they lost against the Rangers, which seems to conveniently ignore like 2 months of the Earth being around.

Is it really that crazy to suggest that a career politician - with no hockey background.. either as a player or manager... should not be running a pro hockey team?

If the Pens were achieving a ton of success, sure, maybe it would make sense. But they aren't.

To me, that seems like a valid critique.

There's a difference between saying he's disliked because he'as a politician and not a hockey guy, and saying he's disliked because he's a democrat.

He's not explicitly hated because of party lines, but the fact that he knows jack **** about hockey.

What makes anyone think Morehouse has anything to do with roster/player decisions as far as signings or trades?

Everything I've ever read on the guy has to do with marketing and public relations. I don't understand where this conspiracy theory about him being some meddling super villain behind the curtain comes from.

He comes across as a shifty, greasy dude, but that doesn't suggest to me that he's the sickness responsible for this organization's rapid deterioration.

I know it's more interesting of an idea if someone is behind the scenes ruining the team, but in this case the obvious answer is the best. The team sucks because the roster is a disaster and its stars are injury prone to boot, while the people who officially are involved in hockey operations suck as well.

I just felt the need to point out that it's been 20 days, and Claude Julien is still "twisting in the wind" while waiting for the Bruins to hire a new GM.

For some reason, nobody's complaining about it like they did for Bylsma. Come to think of it, it's not all that different from when nobody complained about it when the Canucks did it to Tortorella.

Which just goes to show how influenced the media is by someone being a "good interview".

The way most are corporations run, all decisions ultimately go through the CEO. It's not out of the realm of possibility that Morehouse has the final say on roster moves.

People talk about him being a career politician, but most people don't dislike him based on the side of the political aisle he is on.

Yeah I don't get that either. Strange comment by Dejan.

Pittsburgh is a democratic city, has been for a while, and will continue to be.. it was a weird comment.
