I'm in agreement that he deserves more ice time than the average 4th liner. He's a good hockey player, and I think 15 minutes is about appropriate. I could even understand 3rd line if we were in a situation like the current one where we have other non-top 9 forwards in our top 9. Don't think he'd add anything to the PP. Grabner had a lot of goals with the Rangers, doesn't mean he'd help the PP. Desharnais for example is a worse hockey player than Fast, but a better PP player. He has a better skill-set for that situation than Fast.

I don't agree with the current lines. I think it is counterproductive to trying to win hockey games. Normally, I'd think its a big deal when AV does something like this, but when I saw the lines, my initial reaction was that it helps the tank, so its not that big of a deal, but it is dumb if you are trying to win games that Fast would be taking Buchnevich's spot. And then Fast gets minutes in OT over Buchnevich probably because AV thinks he's onto something with Fast on the first line. Dumb.

You'll never find me disagreeing that AV is an ass, but I think he sort of is onto something. Since Fast was put on the first line, that line is kicking everyone's teeth in. It did help us win tonight and it has helped us win so far, so I don't understand your argument that it's counterproductive to winning. I totally get the SSS argument, but you can't argue it hasn't worked over the course of the sample.

Ride it out the rest of the season and get a real sample. It won't matter because we're not making the playoffs. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work. Nothing lost. Buchnevich isn't going to die over the course of a month because he isn't on the first line, and his development is going absolutely nowhere regardless as long as AV is coach, which he will be at least for the rest of the season.

If it does continue to work, and you abandon it because we've just decided "Fast isn't a top 6 player," well honestly, that sounds like something AV would do.

I feel like people want those two to play together because they are Russian. Namestnikov looks bad at center, as well. He's much better suited for wing, although its kind of forced because we only have two centers. I'm also not really sure they play so well together. Have they combined for one good play so far? Tip on a PP, but otherwise, I've not seen anything. Those two, especially Buchnevich, shouldn't have to play on a line with Vesey who completely stifles their games. Look at what he did today whiffing on a wide open feed in front. You don't put your best players with plugs on the third line, and a grinder in their place on the first line.

Fast has proven he doesn't belong in the top 6. This discussion comes up like every few weeks AV decides to put him there over a better offensive player. He's a good hockey player, but its always the same result. He holds the line back because he's just a complimentary player, and adds nothing other than grit to the line when facing off against top competition.

Why are we like the only team in the league that tries to balance the lines and ice time? How about we play our best players with our other best players and play them the most? Instead, AV tries to even up all the ice time, and tries insane combinations. Then people wonder why we don't have any 60 point forwards. Maybe because they play like 5 months less than they should. Vince Trocheck is the #2 center on Florida and he plays over 21 minutes per game. Our #2 center plays over 4 minutes less per game.

Were not even close to the only team that does this In fact it's a shitty trend in the league in recent years, you almost see killer 3 man lines anymore, at most you get a top line of 2 skill players and one scrub, like Toronto or Dallas. Only team I can think of that plays its best 3 fwds together is Boston

Someone made a post recently, I can't remember exactly who, but we had like 1 forward who plays normal first line minutes. AV spreads out the ice time way more than other coaches. It was the same thing with the defense. The minutes of the defensemen under AV are also way lower. McDonagh, Girardi and Staal all saw big decreases in ice time immediately once AV started coaching the team.

I don't think we have any elite players, but I don't know if there's a coach who divides ice time worse than AV. Not only does he spread it out a lot, which I think is a bad strategy, but he also has to be like the only coach in the league who doesn't give his best players the most ice time. I saw a good graph on this a month or two ago. I think there was one other team in the league that didn't have all their top scorers playing the most, and I think the only other team that was doing that had a player who was surprisingly their 2nd or 3rd leading scorer. Thats not the case with our team. AV just doesn't know how to divide ice time. Is there any other coach in the league that would give more ES TOI per game to Fast than Kreider and Buchnevich? Fast also had nearly as much as Nash, and not that much less than Zibanejad.

Dividing ice time might be the thing AV's worst at, and thats saying a lot, considering how bad his defensive system is.

Yeah I was more ranting about the trend of spreading talent through the lineup that's a cancer to this league, but you're right AVs minutes are ridiculous , just another thing that makes him terrible.

That was a really poor penalty shot call. That penalty is for when a goalie or teammate obviously flouts the rules. Not what happened there. Glad it turned out to help build up Georgiev. But if Malkin scores there, it’s a shame.

Tank line got like no ice time against Pittsburgh. I'm still kind of a DD defender but it makes a big difference.

What are the dates where we can call up Andersson and Chytil for their maximum nine games each? Wonder if we're doing it.

I was lucky enough to have to go to work when we were down 0-2... Sounds like I missed a great finish.

What a fun game. I keep replaying that final sequence that started w/Pionk dancing away from Letang four times. One of the better games I've watched in a while. Just great to watch these youngins doing their thing, finding their confidence and contributing to a really satisfying win.

Now I have learned that tweener NHL-AHL talent is cancer.
That winning is bad, as if players who have just scraped it to the NHL best league in the world and trying to prove themselves should now just be viewed as junky players.

True but the last time Fast and Kreider were together was the 2015 playoffs.

That line beat Washington by themselves.

Member when Kreider beat Habs in 13-14?

Too true. These guys, even the most hated ones, have tons of talent. Success is certainly dependent on talent but also opportunity, luck, timing, health, patience, system. For a large percentage of these players, it’s a matter of three or four of those factors coming together. We give a guy like Gilmour time and the right role and I bet he becomes a contributor. That goes for most of these guys. Sorry for the ramble.

Because our forward group is ****ing great, and we traded Nash and Miller, and they're still ****ing great.

People crave the elite talent but he haven't needed it. If we get it, holy ****, but we need more help on defense.

I would call the performances of Kreider and Zibenjad last night elite level talent. Both were forceful, and dominating. Fans of this team have clamored for players that can take over a game. Kreider and Zibanejad have shown they can do that.

The game winning goal really impressed me! Zibanejad showed he would pass. The goaltender was ready to change his position, to move to the right. At that moment Zibanejad shot and it turned out to be a complete surprise for the goaltender.

This was easily my favorite game of the season.

Its been a while since I've enjoyed watching a ranger game.

luckily for me I started watching halfway through the 2nd when it started getting good.

I cried when he was sent down in the beginning of the year .
Was pretty shocked myself, but obviously it did the kid some good being in Hartford. Hope this is a good lesson not to rush our kids. When it's their time, it's their time. Anyone that can avoid another player like he did last night and doesn't ALWAYS need assistance, well.....I want him on my team.

Kreider and Zibenejad +9

Pionk -5

O'Gara -10 because that's always worth pointing out.

Eye test: Zibanejad’s line ate Crosby, Hayes’ struggled against Malkin (who wouldn’t), Names and Buch did very well against Brassard and Kessel and AHL line barely held on (AV put them out of their misery early in the 3rd).

Vesey should be on the 4th line. He can’t consistently keep up with the Russians. Fast is a workhorse but he also should be slotted lower next year.

Skjei needs to find more game by game consistency.

Georgiev is mature beyond his years. There’s calmness to his game that helps settle skaters to help them change momentum when needed. What a great FA find!

Or not. Ottawa needs to deal him at the draft otherwise they will lose him for free. He will be traded for scraps to the team EK decided to resign with.
More and more I'm liking the trading of our Captain (and I pushed for it from the getgo} because it seems to me that Ottawa just may get quite a bit less for him, than we did. I think we beat Ottawa to the punch. They held out, and now may have waited too long. Not alot of teams can afford him, and those that can, may not want to. He will be very costly.

Sorry, I'm going to be that guy... he has chicken legs

but that's awesome for the little one
Thought same, looks like my legs......and that ain't a good thing. Needs to hit the gym this off season (again) also.....those socks man.....yeah, I have a problem with funny looking socks scrunched down (that's what I do, as well. Lmao
