To be fair it is very explicitly stated in CBA that if the NHL for any reason suspects the team is using LTIR to circumvent the cap (ie not really injured) that the NHL will challenge and an independant doctor is brought in. It then becomes a whole thing.

Obviously LTIR has been abused in the past and is still currently but with the Slava situation LA may not want to take any chances NHL will do something stupid.

By the same token the NHL may not want to push its luck and look like it is unfairly handicapping the Stanley Cup champions over a cap situation that is largely of its own doing and its unwillingness to move to help the franchise and its fans while letting justice take its course for an off-ice, non-team related incident. I'm starting to wonder what would have been made of the NHL's not making a cap exception if a 4 million dollar player were in Slava's situation in Toronto, Montreal, or New York.

Should be a good one tonight!!! Looking forward to Jones shutting down the Pens... more big hits from McNabb... also got to get some more points for Pearson for the Calder... Lets get this done!

Any word on Kopitar?

Well, They said they'd keep him out on Tuesday for precautionary reasons (injury is not severe), and they have used the emergency callup on Van der Gulik. I'm assuming the the call up was just in case another guy got hurt, and Kopi will be in tonight.

....unless i've missed something.

Line rushes did not include Kopitar but did include Van Der Gulik.

Word is that Kopitar originally wanted to take Pennsylvania off, and play in Detroit. (Can't find the link just yet on this tidbit.)

Ah, I see.

Was hoping to see him play against Crosby/Malkin but if the injury still bothers him, even in the slightest, i'd rather have him sit out.

.....

Anze Kopitar, Trevor Lewis and Marian Gaborik remained on the ice for extra work against Jonathan Quick. While Kopitar and Lewis took part as extras in line rushes, Gaborik was confined to the neutral zone and did not participate. None of the three are expected to play tonight.

I saw the Sutter one but this is awesome!
