To add to this; Letang is 37 and still has 3 more years after this one. He’s clearly slowed down and his 6.1M/year will still be on the book when we need to resign Hutson, Dach, Reinbacher and most importantly Demidov.

This is impossible to do as a trade. The only aging player that would make sense for Montreal is Crosby and he’s not moving from Pittsburgh.
There is nothing else Sid can do in Pittsburgh. He got his 600th goal tonight, 1,600 points earlier this season, no more milestones and certainly no playoff hockey if he stays.

The difference in money between Anderson and Letang is .6 mil per. The difference in their performance outside of less than 1/4 of one season is considerably greater than that, by any standard.

Letang and Anderson's respective ages have not stopped Letang from being an exponentially better player through his mid 30s than Anderson was through his late 20s.

But its different now, apparently, because of the same sample size that suggests Dylan Strome is now more productive than McDavid.
Try looking a bit deeper. A rebuilding team should not be looking to trade for a 37 yr old player who is sign till he is 40. If you can't understand that well i can't help you.

Yes there is: Most points by a player for a single team. Howe is at the top with 1809. Sid can get there. Mario is two.

Here's the other thing though, his legacy is important to him. He's talked about that a bit and how important it is to him to retire a Penguin. That is something that he can still do in Pittsburgh. What's the alternative? You trade him to...where? Everyone says Colorado but they have as many roster issues as we do. I'm not convinced they are a legit cup contender. So you trade Sid there and what happens if he doesn't win again? He still loses and now his Pittsburgh legacy is tarnished just a bit.

This is a guy who has for his entire career but team before self. You think at the end he's suddenly going to flip the script on that? Not a chance. This isn't Ray Bourque chasing his first cup at the very, very end. This isn't a guy who is going to get dump by the org ala Stammer, Kane, Toews, etc. This is a guy that's that is going out on top no matter what. There's plenty of stuff he adds to his legacy by staying.

This is correct. Most of the trade Crosby talk is from fans of teams that haven't won anything in decades. Maybe they can't imagine the motivation of a guy that has already won everything because they're still hung up dreaming their team could be 30% as successful as the 2005-2024 Penguins.
