To add to this; Letang is 37 and still has 3 more years after this one. He’s clearly slowed down and his 6.1M/year will still be on the book when we need to resign Hutson, Dach, Reinbacher and most importantly Demidov.

This is impossible to do as a trade. The only aging player that would make sense for Montreal is Crosby and he’s not moving from Pittsburgh.
There is nothing else Sid can do in Pittsburgh. He got his 600th goal tonight, 1,600 points earlier this season, no more milestones and certainly no playoff hockey if he stays.

The difference in money between Anderson and Letang is .6 mil per. The difference in their performance outside of less than 1/4 of one season is considerably greater than that, by any standard.

Letang and Anderson's respective ages have not stopped Letang from being an exponentially better player through his mid 30s than Anderson was through his late 20s.

But its different now, apparently, because of the same sample size that suggests Dylan Strome is now more productive than McDavid.
Try looking a bit deeper. A rebuilding team should not be looking to trade for a 37 yr old player who is sign till he is 40. If you can't understand that well i can't help you.

Yes there is: Most points by a player for a single team. Howe is at the top with 1809. Sid can get there. Mario is two.

Here's the other thing though, his legacy is important to him. He's talked about that a bit and how important it is to him to retire a Penguin. That is something that he can still do in Pittsburgh. What's the alternative? You trade him to...where? Everyone says Colorado but they have as many roster issues as we do. I'm not convinced they are a legit cup contender. So you trade Sid there and what happens if he doesn't win again? He still loses and now his Pittsburgh legacy is tarnished just a bit.

This is a guy who has for his entire career but team before self. You think at the end he's suddenly going to flip the script on that? Not a chance. This isn't Ray Bourque chasing his first cup at the very, very end. This isn't a guy who is going to get dump by the org ala Stammer, Kane, Toews, etc. This is a guy that's that is going out on top no matter what. There's plenty of stuff he adds to his legacy by staying.

This is correct. Most of the trade Crosby talk is from fans of teams that haven't won anything in decades. Maybe they can't imagine the motivation of a guy that has already won everything because they're still hung up dreaming their team could be 30% as successful as the 2005-2024 Penguins.

I don't really care about what Montreal wants here. It just makes zero sense for Pittsburgh, and value-wise there's nothing other than a tiny sample size to suggest Anderson is even close to Letang.

Perfectly happy keeping the declining geezer if the best return is a defensively liable 30 year old forward making 5.5 mil per who hits 30 points in a good year. And it sounds like Habs fans are happy with their guy too. So it's perfect.

With two struggling teams it's hard to make a deal. These teams have good trade history between them. Montreal needs veteran right D. Letang is a good fit.

Hey, at this rate we could add Hagens and McKenna the next 2 years.

Why the f*** would the Pens trade Letang for Josh Anderson? How does that help the Pens? It doesn’t, it’s silly, and all these proposals for our aging stars reek of desperation and ignorance.

You think the Pens are going to trade one of their legacy players for Josh f***ing Anderson? Can you even attempt to make an offer that the Penguins would consider?

Why would the Penguins do this? If they move Letang its not going to be for a winger that old. They are still free falling with not much of a prospect base. If you want Pittsburgh players, offer picks and/or prospects.
why would teams give up anything of value for a 37 yearold letang signed for 3 more years? He is closer to a cap dump than this valuable asset you are pretending he is. Quite frankly many fanbases would expect assets for taking him

Exactly. Habs are rebuilding. Rather keep the cheaper 2 yr contract than add declining 37 yr old with a more expensive 3 yr contract that would do nothing for us.

Letang is 37. If the Habs management trade for him they should all be let go.
Pretty sure Hughes isn't that stupid.

So true. Expecting to get good assets from a rebuilding team for a declining 37 yr old is moronic. WOW.

Letang makes 6.1 mil per and has been a #1 defenseman for years, right up to last year.

Anderson makes 5.5 mil per and has been a shit 3rd liner for years.

19 games for either doesn't change that, unless one has the memory of a goldfish.
Call up Jagr and see what he is up to. Hes been one of the best players in the league for years (just dont ask how long ago)

Fine, Penguins would be perfectly fine keeping a declining asset Letang then a never was Anderson.

If the Pens want an Anderson like player they should go after Miles Wood. a Cheaper and just as effective player that I'm sure Av's fans would gladly trade.

Speaking of confused...

...even if you had made an argument based on cash vs. cap hit - which you didn't - Letang makes less in actual cash in each of the next 3 years.

Anderson 7mil, 5mil, 3.5mil

vs.

Letang 6.2mil, 4.8 mil, 1mil

Speaking of confused

Letang doesn’t get 1 million in last year.
That type of contract structure was eliminated
Letang 6.2, 4.8, 4.8, 4.8

Was he a 1st line NHL winger last year and is being written off after a poor 19 game run this year?

Because that's the equivalent here.

Woods for Letang What are you adding to Letang for taking on that contract for 3 more seasons?. Avs laugh and hang up the phone.

Letang for Anderson? Who says no?

You think Montreal is going to take on Kris Letang, signed until he's 41 years old?

Hell no.

Why would the Penguins do this? If they move Letang its not going to be for a winger that old. They are still free falling with not much of a prospect base. If you want Pittsburgh players, offer picks and/or prospects.

Yes, I'm sure there's a long list of teams clamouring to give up young prospects to take on Kris Letang, at over $6 million a year, until he's 41-years old.

Lol at people calling Letang "washed" when he's being offered up for Josh Anderson

Is Letang what he once was? Of course not. Is he still a way better player than Josh Anderson? Obviously yes.

Here were their stats last year:

Letang: 10 goals and 51 points in 82 games, +13 overall
Anderson: 9 goals and 20 points in 78 games, -18 overall

That's terrific, but the trade would be for their performance this year. (And, incredibly, for the next few years after that as well as Letang his 41.)

This year, their stats are:

Letang: 2 goals, 4 assists in 21 games, -13 overall
Anderson: 4 goals, 6 assists in 22 games, -2 overall

If he cares about the franchise he will absolutely approve a trade eventually, that's what best for him and the Pens, your logic is flawed. He gets to go to a contender and actually win again and Pit gets a nice haul of assets to help the rebuild. There's 30 other teams, apart from the Avs that would love him and pay a pile for him, win win
