Hate the message this sends for people like Drouin and Dadonov. At least Rem showed effort and hasn't been given a chance at all this year.

Not a huge blunder or anything, but in my mind, it's Hugo's worst move yet.

You should start a fan club, you could be the president and ONLY fan of the Pitlicker. Reminds me of the dude that infamously stormed out of HF back in 99 because we got rid of Zholtok and vowed to never return over such a travesty.

Off all of the spare part I would have think that Rem was the most valuable... Considering they are letting him go when they could have bought extra time, or waive Danodov who no one would have pick at is salary, he also placed on waiver by 2 other team before... I'm going to assume that Rem had a bad attitude and that was KH only option...

He was a flash in the pan player who went on a good streak with us. They should have analyzed him better.

He signed a two year deal which can be completely buried in the AHL. And Montreal isn't close to the contract limit.

Unless its your money, there's no reason to complain.

Once again showing no balls and protecting all the big money useless veterans

there could be some undisclosed injuries that is keeping Hoffman and Drouin around.. just in case.. or perhaps a deal in the works though. I doubt HUGO are dumb enough to hang this new team direction on these guys either.

Anything’s possible but in Hoffman’s case, that extra contract year is what is keeping him on this team plus the non-negligible fact, as reported recently by Renaud Lavoie, that there is not one NHL team that has any interest in Hoffman.

I agree with @MarkovsKnee — Hoffman is a perfect buyout candidate next summer.

Could it be that for the other turds in the lineup, they’re holding hope against hope that they can still be polished and pawned off at the trading deadline?

They can’t all be viable trading returns. HuGo will need to make a cold assessment of which deadwood is a complete lost cause such that their or his chances of turning into something of value at the deadline, are slim to none.

The way HuGo has shown to be forward-thinking, tells me they’re likely to have already done their internal decision making about that. Plus, what more proof do they need, just based on the lack of trading interest that Hughes has been getting.

If the guy who is not being waived next is a hopeless turd, then take the very minor risk that other GMs will see that player the same way. That hopeless turd will otherwise be sucking TOI from your better upside players.
Could be...............I just can't believe the way these turds are playing that anyone not named Bergevin would bother even thinking about it.............................but I like where you are going with this!!

I hope he stays.

He has great hands and speed.

This may come back to bite us if he goes elsewhere.

There's really no point in buying Hoffman out unless we are trying to go big in the UFA market. Even if we give 10m to Caufield and 4m to Harris, we would have 6m in cap space on a flat cap with a full roster. So I'm not sure why we need to buy him out.

So when do we know if he got claimed or not?

He was underperforming this year like he hadnt anything to prove anymore and since no one will claim Dadonov, Hoffman or Drouin on waiver, he was the logical choice. At some point we have to make room for kids, you want kids like Ylonen, RHP to get some NHL experience to prepare them for next year where they are waiver eligible, they will also bring more competition inside the fowards group, what you dont have right now with so many washed up vets just happy to be in the line-up.

One other reason is if Huges thinks there will be other opportunities to get another contract like the Monahan contract that comes with a 1st round pick attached to it...

?? I said it's not a huge blunder. But I think it sends a terrible message that you can be as god f***ing awful as Drouin and Dadonov and keep your spot.

This post my @MarkovsKnee convinved me that a Hoffman buyout is a viable option:

The fact that Hoffman has a two year cap hit of $1.12m next season saving us a ton of money then rises to $1.66m when cap is going up $8m-$10m is too sweet not to use.

Remember, Price is going on LTIR next year, which means we'll be in a position to maximize that LTIR at the beginning of next season too.

All of this means that opening up as much cap space NEXT year when all teams are against the cap is way more important than opening up space the following year when everyone has space.

It gives us an opportunity to do what Carolina did and bring in valuable players for cheap, or bring in another Monahan - a dump attached with a 1st.

We have ONE more year to capitalize on this after that cap space will no longer be at a premium.

We will have the cap space to do that without buying out Hoffman though.

well Dadanov hasn't played, he was only brought in to move Webs, not exactly targetted. Who would you sit Droiuin for? I can't stand the guy, but who do you bring in?
