1. Might allow us to do another "Monahan" type deal
2. If one of our youngins pushes their way into our top 9.
3. Allows Molson to use the money to buy/repair equipment that Slaf will continue to break. ;)
We have the cap space to do a Monahan type deal without buying Hoffman out, and if a young pushes their way into our top-9 great, sit Hoffman or send him to the AHL. And Gallagher would be a better candidate for all those things anyways.

What do you rhink about Anderson - Evan's- Gallagher. Or Anderson - Evans - Ylonen. Or Anderson - Evans - Pitlick?

Evans worked well with Pitlick for the most part, but Pittie isn't having a good year.

Anderson-Evans-Ylonen would be interesting.

So why not be able to do a Monahan type deal and a smaller version of it? If Hoffman continues to get worse. You'd rather pay him his full salary to sit in the press box or send him down to the AHL? Why not just cut your losses and be done with it.

Look up what it would cost to buy out Gally. He is not a better candidate than Hoffman.

There's really no point in buying Hoffman out unless we are trying to go big in the UFA market. Even if we give 10m to Caufield and 4m to Harris, we would have 6m in cap space on a flat cap with a full roster. So I'm not sure why we need to buy him out.

+the cap is expected to go up. That's more than enough to sign Dubois (assuming we trade for him) and have a enough to cover the bonuses we need to pay.

I wonder if the 2 years contract was also part of the plan to make him less interesting as a potential waiver pick-up as they knew they may have to "use" him for roster management.

It was probably not part of the plan when they gave it to him… but it most likely was an element that played when they chose to waive him.

Caps would have claimed him had they not claimed Kubel, they currently have a 23 man roster so they couldn't take him.
