Yager is a good bet for the Jets.

Rutger is the better of the two but to get a good prospect back when teams know the player you are dealing doesn’t want to be there is good management.

Both teams should be ecstatic with the trade.

So they traded their best prospect for McGroarty just because he's more NHL ready, so they can still miss the playoffs.

Nevermind. Dubas is still an idiot lmao.

Because he's more NHL ready or because they think he's a better prospect?

Simple equal value prospect swap. Neither side should be made really. Just wish the Penguins were ADDING McGroarty to Yager and not merely swapping but it is what it is. As I said on the Pens board, they have a gapping hole at 1LW and McGroarty plays the style that has historically worked very well with Sid so, if that is the plan, I understand.

This is the right analysis. Chevy was in a bind and managed to get a good prospect back still.

Come on, Dubas. You basically swapped a $20 dollar bill for two $10 dollar bills.

You're supposed to add more quality prospects to the pipeline, not just swap one quality prospect for another.

How is this deal a $20 bill for 2 $10 bills? It’s a straight up swap where the Penguins are getting the better prospect.

Chevy is a goat. Being GM on the Jets would be very challenging due to certain players not wanting to play there. He’s managed to make the most of it.

Chevy did quite well in this trade - hard to imagine a better return given McGroarty's trade demand.

That being said, IIRC according to Friedman - this whole trade demand was put into motion when Chevy decided against signing McGroarty in April after Michigan's season ending either because the Jets were in a playoff push and didn't want to bring him in and/or burn a year of his ELC.

I think most would also argue that McGroarty has more trade value currently than Yager.

Chevy seemed to put himself in this unenviable position, even if he made the best out of it.
