I'm telling you, the writers this offeason have been great, really spacing all these stories out instead of cramming them all in a few days. Save some stuff for early/mid September!

I think the thing that makes the most sense here is a lottery protected 1st for McGroaty, since the Jets will likely be getting a pick around 12th overall while the Penguins get a young guy l ready to contribute now. But another aspect that I wonder about is McGroaty wanting NHL time immediately, the Penguins have to trim some of the fat off of their roster to open up a forward spot for him.

IIRC, didn't this have more to do with the Jets opting not to sign him to an ELC after Michigan's season ended versus him not wanting to play in Winnipeg?
Not sure on the specific reason, just seems to be a worrisome trend.

You're not wrong, but it sounds like it came down to the willingness to promise NHL ice time more so than location.
Mike Sullivan refuses to play young players unless injuries force his hand. I'm not so sure the Pens will give him more opportunity than the Jets would unless Sullivan does a complete 180 in how he handles youngsters.

All any club can do is guarantee you the opportunity. Up to you to prove that you still deserve that once camp opens. Maybe they even promise you 10 NHL games or something. but, no team is keeping a player for the whole season if they don't show that they are nhl ready.

Chevy has been pretty patient. Word was he allowed some clubs to speak to the player a couple of months back and no real rumours between then and now. So, seems like he was comfortable enough with the return to pull the trigger.

I would expect a pick and one of Eller (or one of the other 6 3C’s currently on the roster going back)

If it’s just picks, the Penguins 100% have to have something else cooking because they are over in their bottom 6.
