A 1:1 value wise does make sense but the Penguins really like Yager so I just don't see it. I don't think you get that value from a kid that's asking out.

That is an amazing trade for the Penguins to pull him off, he’s just as good of a prospect as Yager. I’m super curious what this trade is going to look like.

Dubas is doing a terrific job rebuilding the Penguins prospect pool.

McGroaty is likely a better prospect than who would be where the Penguins 1st would be.

I’d want lottery protection on it but say pick #10 for McGroaty is a net improvement for the Penguins IMO.

It's the type of calculated risk that makes sense for PIT, who both needs help now as their goal is to win a cup this year, and needs young talent in the future (so McGroarty ticks that box). It's more sensible than holding onto it and then cashing it at the deadline for a pure rental if they are in the playoffs potentially.
