People saying Dubas is bad when he basically just got a second for free is on par for this site these days. People are so set on being negative regardless of what the news is. Dubas could be fired tomorrow and posters here would already be railing on the next guy. He pulled off a great trade for Karlsson and got the best value he could for Guentzel. In less than 12 months year, he’s done at minimum a fairly good job.

Hayes does not matter in this deal on this roster and is yet probably an upgrade over Jeff Carter. And we got a 2nd round pick for it. Asset management and roster improvement. Good minor deal.

Dubas (probably): "We need to infuse the lineup and system with youth. Getting a 2nd round pick for future considerations helps us on that front, whether we draft someone or we use the capital to bring in another young player. So overall, this helps us quite a bit."

The density of people in this thread would astound Neil deGrasse Tyson. This move isn't "bring in Kevin Hayes to help us now". Kevin Hayes is absolutely irrelevant. He might help, he might not. No one really cares. If he does, great. If he doesn't, scratch him. He's not a staple in the lineup by any stretch. This move was about procuring draft capital for the future. That is the #1 priority of this move. #2 being Hayes and whatever impact he might have but in reality, it's sooooooooooo far down on the list behind "getting a low 2nd for free" that it's nearly irrelevant.

Why people refuse to understand that is...odd. And concerning for our world.

I hated this dogfaced puck-hogging drama whore so much my stepsis and nephew got me a Shirley with his number that said Dogboy on it.

I should've put money on him breaking his 30 game goalless streak against Philly. He fell on his ass behind the play as usual as the play went to the opposite side of the ice. Then when he finally gets to his feet an eternity later someone feeds him a stretch pass back to the other blue line and he lumbers in and scores. If falling so far behind the play that he's literally forgotten is the only way he can get breakaways then maybe he shouldn't be in the league anymore.

And while there were better ways to weaponize that cap space, Hayes at 3C, Eller at 4C is an improvement over what we had last season.

won't act like i watched much in Philly. But he has two redeeming skills it seems like as a hockey player.
1. somehow be the slowest person on ice to randomly get breakaways - partially due to not being in the defensive zone half the time.
2. hanging on to the puck for a long time in the offensive zone, but not really making anything happen towards the net while it happens.

I wont act like he was terrible, because in reality as a 3C on a team that lacked secondary 5v5 scoring anyways he wasn't awful. But I don't see how he's going to help any team win.

You mean the cap situation that was f***ed before he got here? He offloaded Petry, Granlund, Rutta to bring in Karlsson. He got the highest value possible for Guentzel. He brought in a serviceable winger in Smith who had a bad year and will now be offloaded for assets. He didn’t get the team mired in any of this offseason’s long term contracts. What cap issues has he created?
