Well, when you cherry pick the four worst contracts (with the possible exception of Howard) it will obviously look better. Not saying MAF has a bad contract but that reasoning was flawed at best.

I meant to do that.

The poster highlighted his cap hit as a reason for why Fleury won't be moved. I mentioned worse goalies with similar cap hits.

I'm curious to see how the advanced numbers(of which his are top notch) hold up over the season.

The smart play would be to trade MURRAY not MAF.
MAF is the better goalie at this point and when he begins to decline Jarry will be ready.

A 1st and top cost controlled roster player sounds about right.

Murray won four playoff series last season.

MAF has won two playoff series in the past seven seasons.

Fleury has the 14th highest cap hit among goalies. His numbers the past 3 seasons place him in the 10-15 range among starting goalies.

He's paid accordingly.

Going to feel weird when Fleury is traded.

I think you meant to say it's "Going to feel weird when Fleury is bought out".
No return coming back in a trade and $1.9 million each year for four years so that Murray is their goalie.
I hope he's worth it.

Is he going to be traded?

I mean, if Murray backstops the Pens to a deep run or Fleury implodes, sure. BUT, what if both goalies are equally good or Fleury is a little better, including the playoffs?

As someone said on the Pens board, I won't believe Fleury is going to be traded until Bob McKenzie announces it's done.

Fleury good in the playoffs? that hasn't happened in 8 years now.

I love Fleury, good goalie (with some huge drop the ball moments in his career but still a good goalie), great man in the community... Has Done SO much when it comes to community involvement in Pittsburgh. Family man and has set up deep roots in this city. Even bumped into him once and he suffered me with nothing but a huge smile and some chit chat for a brief moment. Extremely nice.

Love the guy...

But we need to move on. No matter how it happens, it's time to move on from the Flower.

IMHO this ends up going down as the best and biggest bluff ever, signing Murray this early all but insures MAF will he sought out for a trade and given the option if he doesn't find a suitor to be bought out.
Otherwise it'll go down as a blunder. LV won't bother taking the 2nd or whatever is offer to not draft Murray and just grab the unprotected goalie from the Pens.

Gonna be a fun HF year for Pens fans. Luongo2.0?

I don't understand why people say that a trade like that is impossible. Given the past history of expansion drafts, the precedent is set for a "Take this pick/prospect for not claiming this guy" trade or two to occur for Las Vegas.

But saying "here are four more goalies who have bad contracts that can't be moved" is a bad argument that MAF is moveable. Showing similar goalies/cap hits who have been (or could be) moved would make more sense.

Just because Dustin Brown and David Clarkson have worse contracts doesn't make everyone else in the league moveable.
