Nylander is absolute garbage and that pick means basically nothing either way. Maybe Bemström can bring something to the powerplay, we shall see.
good trade for the pens. The key was the pick. It will be around between 80 to 100 so it comes down to how deep the draft is.Nylander is absolute garbage and that pick means basically nothing either way. Maybe Bemström can bring something to the powerplay, we shall see.
Getting a draft pick for a recently waived player is horrible asset management, I agree.Blue Jackets new GM with a sucky start
Or... he may be a little higher in the Pens lineup that the scoring stipulation made sense to move a guy not in their future. It's really a good deal for both teams. The condition makes it a win win with success. Getting a pick for a guy not playing with no future in Columbus seems reasonable. He plays poorly, CBJ just drafts the next Cam Atkinson with the 6th.They had Bemstrom down there earlier in the year - he scores about as many goals as Nylander does points. A better 200 ft player too.
Perhaps they didn't think they could get Bemstrom through waivers at this time of year.
Why do you phrase this statement in past tense?Wasn't Pittsburgh's power play awful?
I cannot understand how anyone thought that guy should be in the NHL. He is completely overmatched. Is this the end of the Matthew Phillips era in Pittsburgh?
Not really. Bemstrom was caught in a numbers game. I don't like giving him up and think he's going to flourish elsewhere, but we only have so many roster spots. We just have a lot of those "fair-to-middlin'" type guys.I have to imagine the Jackets are going to give Nylander another shot at the NHL level, otherwise this is a very odd trade for them to make.
Bemstrom could thrive in Pittsburgh with the right linemates. He's a good player.
This is no risk all upside move. It should be done 10 out of 10 times.Dubas is desperately bargain bin shopping hoping to hit a home run
Conditional 6th turns to a 3rd for 6 goals.
I will gladly pay a 3rd if the guy scores 6 or more goals for us.
I know, right? A potential 3rd round pick for a guy who cleared waivers is insane.I love that Bemstrom gets waived/scratched and not a peep but then gets traded and people start saying why would they trade him, hes a good player most people claiming it Id wager barely knows who he is
Well, Pittsburgh is the sort of situation where he could legit break out - not to anywhere near the degree he does in Cleveland, but still - and they might not have claimed him before for cap reasons.I love that Bemstrom gets waived/scratched and not a peep but then gets traded and people start saying why would they trade him, hes a good player most people claiming it Id wager barely knows who he is
Yeah, but the Pens PP struggles are not about talent. They're about a coaching staff who doesn't have any new tricks despite endless struggles, and a set of talented players who have accordingly kind of given up.Wasn't Pittsburgh's power play awful? Bemström's shot is high caliber on the PP. Other than that, he's an okay bottom six player. Nothing fancy about him except for his shot.
He is just a throw-in AHL contract who happens to have a well-known name so people react to it. He is no different than Joe Shmoe who is usually added to open up some contract slots, add AHL depth, etc.
