Pierre McGuire out on NBC Sports number one coverage

  • The worst was the last several playoffs where the league would fly him after every game between multiple series so we'd have to hear his babble EVERY.SINGLE.NIGHT.
  • The smarm.
  • Kris-to-pher LeTang and Tommy Wilson <gag>
I do appreciate his knowledge, don't appreciate his inability to self-edit or utilize brevity

New blood is def. needed in NHL national coverage, Doc/Edzo/Pierre aren't the only 3 hockey minds/voices on the Planet of Earth

That's a sad news. Pierre is a great hockey personality and probably the most passionate hockey announcer on any national network these days. I don't care if he says some weird stuff here and there. He had been authentic on the crew with Edzo and Doc. Boucher is boring as hell. Barely better at commentating than goaltending at which he sucked.
That's AHL Champion and NHL All-Rookie Team Brian Boucher. And he currently holds the NHL's modern record for the longest shutout streak at 332:01.

If I'm McGuire I want this. Imagine having to carry Kendall Coyne Schoefeld again but this time for like the full season.

NBC's recent hiring choices with on air talent have been terrible. The only one that's been good is Sharp. KCS and AJM are the epitome of "progressive" hirings, and are all the wrong reasons for bringing someone in. Both of them, especially KCS, SUCK for hockey coverage. They're looking for a Doris Burke who is fantastic, but instead of working someone up from the minors of commentating, they're just throwing these ex-athletes to the wolves to appease people who care that there's too many white males on their coverage their team. Instead of caring about you know... putting on a quality production.

I'm actually laughing trying to imagine Kendall doing her thing, with Bouchard instead of McGuire babysitting her. It'll be a trainwreck. "[10 seconds of silence] S-S-SURE IS BRIAN!"

Best news of the off season. This is glorious!

Hope he's removed permanently from the broadcasts though because Lord knows if the Isles make the playoffs they aren't the A/1 broadcast and I don't want to be stuck with that buffoon.

The progressive hirings networks are doing are hilariously bad. Jessica Mendoza on ESPN comes to mind. It's awful with how many talented people there are it goes back to hiring based on what group allegedly needs to be represented.

As much as I hate that though, I think I hate Pierre even more. So I'm conflicted.

The solution is get rid of Pierre and the progressive hires, but that isn't happening.

The only acceptable replacement for Doc is John Forslund.

People here hating on Doc and Edzo they're great. They weren't the problem. The problem was Pierre. "WELL DOC WATCH NUMBER FIFTY SIX IN WHITE"

I agree that passion about what you love is good. The problem is NOBODY CARED WHAT HE HAD TO SAY.

Honestly I have to agree with you here. Pierre had to go, he doesn't make the game more enjoyable. I don't care how much knowledge he has. If I wanted endless knowledge I'd just read Wikipedia all day.

NBC Sports should cut ties with Mike Milbury
Milbury is a clown but I remember being at the SC Final games in DC (Game 3 and 4) and for Game 4 I sat in the 400's watching all the studio shows do their pre-game stuff (they were doing it on the 200 level) and I was watching the NBC crew and I wave at Milbury and he waves back

Been more tolerant of him since then

the guy has so much knowledge its unreal. you hear him or used to hear him on TSN radio in the mornings and you cant hate the guy, at all.
Sounds like the nicest, most sincere ever.
He does have tons of knowledge, but what he presents is often just not very interesting. Maybe it's different for Canadians, but for me I couldn't care less about where a player played his midget hockey and where he grew up. I want someone who can help analyze the play, draw attention to things I might have missed. I don't want trivia hour.

As a person though? I love him. His awkwardness and weird, improper antics are refreshing in a business that is, quite frankly, often quite boring. Talking about broadcasts and not the hockey itself.

Kendall Coyne Schoefeld is now part of the Sharks broadcast team so you will most likely be good.

Kendall Coyne Schofield joins the Sharks

Good, the guy is awful, way too loud and obnoxious , especially when a goal is scored.
Still better than the females they had last year, they made ears bleed, hope networks are past the woke phase, and have returned to sanity.

also, there should be a "rink audio only" option
