Seravalli mentioned that Ottawa, Detroit and even Columbus had interest/has interest in PLD...

For those Habs fans hoping that they don't get Dubois...

When is the last time the Habs actually drafted a C as good as him? Plekanec in 2001, maybe. They also whiffed on two no. 3 draft picks at C in a few years (KK, Galchenyuk).

Are we going to wait another 10 years before they actually draft another good one?
It's the price to pay the reason we don't want him,
9 mil a year ?? no
Ghule or Dach envolve is this trade ? no

This is an insanely bad argument

Definitely something wrong with this trade. Been two days since it broke. Sounds like PLD changed his mind on sign in LA. Or this is all a ploy by his agent

It took Bergevin two weeks to trade Fournier and Tinordi for Scott and Chaput, so a deal of this magnitude would take him like 2 decades. He's probably asking Blake to explain everything to him slowing it down.

I don't like the idea of a potential bidding war for Dubois. I'm already cautious of his baggage, and wondering if this chunk of cap space should be locked into him, let alone the other assets it would take.

Dubois isn't THAT good dude. He's a pretty good 2nd line centre in the modern NHL.

Boston cleared some room and very likely need some top 6 centers. Perhaps they will finally get in on the Dubois sweepstakes? Boston was my original team where I thought Dubois would get traded to.

He's worth $9M if your team needs a center, based on a bunch of recent deals. If you don't need a center, it likely doesn't make sense to spend that much though.
I keep hearing 9+ and I'm baffled as to why?
He's got a career high of 63 points and I know JT Miller is 5 years older but since he's come here and got top 6 and pp time like PLD gets
He's had 72 in 69, 46 in 53, 99 in 80 and 80 in 81 while also being a leader who despite BS was the real leader of the team and he signed for 8 million and people think it's somehow a negative value contract.

Again I get the age gap but if he had been given the same opportunity before coming here he likely has several more high- end seasons.

If PLD was unable to do it already what makes people think he will going forward?

Quinn Hughes makes 7 a year and already had two seasons out of 4 that best PLD's high.

What am I missing that a decent 2C gets 9 million?
That's more than Stutzle, Jack, Nico, etc. Yes he's giving up more ufa years than them and is younger than JT but I bet he out scores PLD for at least the next 5 years.

Also says the parameters of the deal are done.

3 roster players to Winnipeg - Vilardi, Iafallo, and another young roster player that played for the Kings + a pick

3 pieces to LA - PLD, they speculate Jansen Harkins because of Wiebe's reporting, and another player/prospect

Seems like it's all down to whether or not they can figure out the contract.

You need to compare more than points -- in no world should Stutzle or Jack Hughes be brought up to compare contracts since we're talking UFA years.

I'd dig deeper into the recent contracts and actually find ones in a comparable situation.

Pagnotta just said they're supposed to have talks today about the contract, more than just "oh 8x8 and it's done". Bonuses, what kind of NMC/NTC once he hits UFA years, etc.

Edit : a Winnipeg sports show is in Nashville talking to him in person.

Thats great news, glad to see contract talks are progressing nicely so far

How are Boston going to be in on PLD? they have 11m in cap space and only 14 players signed.
