I can almost guarantee everyone shitting on WPG has never lived there or stayed there for a full year.

As someone who grew up in Manitoba, its a super outdoorsy city. Tons of hunting, world class fishing, camping, hikes, and lakes for marine activities. The cities winters are overblown because its almost Winnipeg's calling card. With global warming, the only major cities that doesn't get as cold as Winnipeg in the winter are Vancouver and the Maritime capitals due to coastal. Its the same cold/snow in WPG, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, etc... They have the extreme heat in the summer (+45C) to the extreme cold (-45C). Neither is consistent and always happens a few times a season. The city itself has a ton of random and super interactive festivals throughout the year that feed into the seasons. And because the cost of living is so low, most people who make a good amount of money and live there live like kings and can afford to travel all the time.

It's not nearly as bad as 99% of the people bashing it make it sound, probably based off of the one time the SJ Sharks player complained about wifi or some shit when they were in town or it being dark.

Educate yourselves vs running around like a bunch of meercats following each other whenever someone ahead of you says something "funny".
Wtf I live in Montreal and it's completely false, it never gets as cold as in Winnipeg lol.

-20 is considered VERY cold here and it happens maybe 2-3 times per winter max. I know because I run in the winter and I don't go out running under -20. It rarely happens.

Its the same cold/snow in WPG, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, etc... They have the extreme heat in the summer (+40C) to the extreme cold (-35C). Neither is consistent and always happens a few times a season, just like the other major cities in those seasons. The city itself has a ton of random and super interactive festivals throughout the year that feed into the seasons. Super multicultural so theres a thousand restaurants that are all very well priced and amazing food from different origins. The only thing NHL players see of it is the downtown, and the downtown arena section is awful. Definitely worst in NHL.

Let him defend his city. He absolutely has a point. The hate on and bashing of Winnipeg as a city is pretty ridiculous.

I doubt it Vilardi seems like a good dude and he played in Windsor. At 23 playing in Winnipeg for 7 months not that far from his hometown of Kingston.

I think this stuff is overblown. The city of Winnipeg will treat him like royalty rather than just some chump at the beach in LA, they still go on the road for half the season.

Where this becomes a bigger issue is when they start having families of their own. The wife gets stuck hunkered down by herself in cold weather without the same glitz and glam of sunnier and funner more active outside places for their families.

The reality is Cgy EDm Wpg Ott and probably Cbj Det Min Buf some of the less desirable cities for reasons mentioned have to be extremely competitive on ice to keep 26 and older player by in large and be prepared to cycle their rosters 18-23 when the reality of a core starts to come apart

Yes - but I wouldn't call Wpg "not far from his hometown of Kingston". It is a 2,308 Km drive (1434 miles). Or a 2:20 hr flight to Ottawa and then drive another couple of hours to Kingston.

While there are the few Canadians that do, it’s mostly Americans doing the bashing and they’re pretty much ignorant about anywhere but America.

You don't usually get a lot of progression beyond age 24. Last season could be his peak in ppg.
The good thing about Vilardi is his defensive play. The bad thing is that he may not be a C.
That's not true. Players are continually progressing especially a player like Vilardi. He's continued to get an increased role and progressed.

A different environment/structure can also do wonders for a player. It can also inhibit. Not saying it will in this case but your original point of players peaking at 24 and not progressing from there is not true.

Incorrect. Blake told him his role when he signed. He even mentioned in his interview post signing that he's aware he'd mentor the younger guys as the contract goes on.

Quinton Byfield is a LW and hasn't been used as a center all season.
Byfield centered Iafallo and Vilardi at the start of the season before he got injured. It was the most dangerous line out the gate that McLellan never reunited once everyone was healthy.

You obviously haven't seen Winnipeg's. Ottawa is in suburbia. With new owners, they should get a new arena in downtown area, which is a much nicer location.
Been many times to Winnipeg's. Easy access by car. Indoor shopping center attached. Its pretty much a 15 minute drive from anywhere in Winnipeg.

In Ottawa, it took me 45 minutes just to get out of the arena parking area. There is nothing in the vicinity of the Ottawa arena. No pubs. Just empty fields.

I grew up in Winnipeg. It’s largely a dump. Summers are great, I enjoy the Forks, cottage season is terrific but winter is too long and cold (though, I haven’t lived there in awhile so maybe it isn’t THAT cold anymore.

Sorry, but the pros you list are not largely available during hockey season (and players would be too busy to access that anyways).

If you build up camaraderie with young players, yes… they would resign (like most of the Jets core did). It’s a good city to raise a family. Very hard sell for players not raised in the organization though.

I’m hearing that Dubois is going to be requesting a trade out of LA immediately after signing an 8 year extension per Frank Seraspaghetti

Yeah, it's in boonsville, but Winnipeg's arena is actually in a bad section of town. It doesn't present well to NHL players, who come in & fly out. No one cares if it's easy for fans to get too.

A trade with WPG and MTL make almost no sense. MTL wants future and young players while WPG want to reset with proven roster players, the only good roster players MTL have they want to hold on to them and the other one has negative value so LAK is a perfect trade partner. Not sour at all if Dubois goes to LA it’s just logic.

Of course he can defend his city, but saying it is as cold in Montreal, Vancouver or Winnipeg is just blatlantly false. Very cold is not cold.

Past -25 C outside is really uncomfortable for most people to do stuff. It happens almost never in Montreal/Vancouver, but is more frequent in Winnipeg.

I'd be quite sad if it was often -25 and I could not do my jogging/sport outside, it would have a big effect on my quality of life.

Biggest downside of Montreal relatively warm winters is the outside rinks are always shit/closed. I grew in Eastern Quebec and I was always playing on outside rinks from December to February growing up. Pretty sure Winnipeg does not have that problem! lol

Yeah but i wouldn't call any area of Winnipeg a bad area compared to what you can find yourself in - in Montreal / Toronto or any major US city.

I like going to Jets games as its convenient. In and out quickly. Reasonably priced. Nice small arena - good visuals wherever you are. Panthers stadium and Dallas also are similar.

Bell Center is kind of scary given how steep the stairs are. If you are in the nose bleeds and trip down the stairs, you could roll all the way to rink level. Ottawa arena is just awful on every level. They need a new arena and in the city.
