It's funny that you think this is clever when you're missing the context of the situation and taking a small group of posters, as representative of a larger fan base.

Many Habs fans were/ are absolutely fine with losing out on PLD and were only interested if he was cheap or signed as a FA. You can act as high and mighty as you want, but it just shows your lack of understanding of the situation.

My understanding of this was that a lot of Montreal fans were fine waiting, under the assumption that is was a slam dunk he signs with them next off season without having to give up any assets.

You gotta think there would have to be futures in the package to Winnipeg. They have to accept that a rebuild is around the corner.
I’m assuming a high pick is involved. The front office might want to rebuild but ownership might not accept it. We will see though jets probably will have lots of moving parts this offseason and deadline time. So they should get lots of different assets back in picks and ready players.

Oh well if McDavid and Draisaitl are better than him he must be a bum.

My point is exactly that first line centers almost never change teams, making this an extremely rare and valuable opportunity for teams looking to take the next step who lack a long term solution at 1C.

Dubois is still young and improving and at least next season will be one of three really good centers on the Kings which means he doesn't have to be McDavid or Draisaitl to drastically improve that team. How different is Kopitar-Dubois-Danault from Eichel-Stephenson-Karlsson? Kings have comparable talent to Vegas on the wings and defense as well.
You are correct first line centers rarely change teams. If LA acquires PLD than the rarity with Tavares and Eichel will continue because PLD is not a first line center and he isn't a first line center on LA either.

How different is it, well 1 of those groups got it done in the playoffs and won a cup. The other well good luck.

Comparable talent to Vegas eh Hmm. Then I am sure LA will have no problem beating Edmonton or Vegas in a playoff series next season.

Oh, Vilardi’s progression now suddenly stopped?

BTW, Laine the “elite goalscorer” is signed at $8.7M AAV and now averages 20 goals/season with Columbus.

You don't usually get a lot of progression beyond age 24. Last season could be his peak in ppg.
The good thing about Vilardi is his defensive play. The bad thing is that he may not be a C.

Nope, most only wanted him if it was free or cheap in terms of assets (I was one of the few who actually wanted to trade for him). But if we needed Dach to be the asset to get us past Vilardi I'm fine not trading for him and on the board I'm probably top 10 in terms of people who wants PLD.

This is the LA Kings we are talking about correct? The team that has lost to the Oilers in the playoffs the last 2 years.
Had Danault ever won a Selke?
LA has not shown the ability to shut them down. If they had they would have won either of those series.
Lol the narrative that people come up with on site is detached from reality sometimes.
So your point is they should just give up and stop trying? They're adding Dubois and Brandt Clarke to a team that lost a close series to the Oilers to give them a better chance to win the next one.

Vilardi probably on the phone with his agent in a panic right now.
I doubt it Vilardi seems like a good dude and he played in Windsor. At 23 playing in Winnipeg for 7 months not that far from his hometown of Kingston.

I think this stuff is overblown. The city of Winnipeg will treat him like royalty rather than just some chump at the beach in LA, they still go on the road for half the season.

Where this becomes a bigger issue is when they start having families of their own. The wife gets stuck hunkered down by herself in cold weather without the same glitz and glam of sunnier and funner more active outside places for their families.

The reality is Cgy EDm Wpg Ott and probably Cbj Det Min Buf some of the less desirable cities for reasons mentioned have to be extremely competitive on ice to keep 26 and older player by in large and be prepared to cycle their rosters 18-23 when the reality of a core starts to come apart

As bad as I don't want to see Vilardi moved, I feel even worse that he'll have to move from L.A. to Winnipeg. Blake must really not like him very much.

Got a funny guy over here!

Vilardi

78 pts. 152 gp(41 pts.last year)

PLD

302 pts. 434 gp(63 pts. last year)

PLD is one year older, but he plays Center, while Vilardi is on the wing almost exclusively now.

He'd get a chance at C in Winnipeg with the C departures.

Looking at Dubois's stats really isn't a great way to judge him. When he is on he's an annoying, shite disturbing cannonball. He is a good # 1 center. When he's not on his game he simply disappears. And THAT'S the issue with Dubois. If the Kings can squeeze more of Game 1 vs Vegas out of Dubois and get way less of game 5 vs Vegas then they are getting one hell of a player no matter what the cost. But that's the big IF in this deal. And I wish them well because he's fun to watch when he's on his game.

Maybe some, but I think there’s a large portion that see him as a complimentary piece that would be nice to have at the right price (asset and contract wise). I don’t think anyone who has been following the Montreal Canadiens over a good period of time would believe signing any FA would be a “slam dunk” as so many use Montreal as leverage.

IMO PLD would be a good fit and story, but is not irreplaceable and not worth ruining the internal salary cap structure the team is building.

He’s good player, and I hope he settles down and focuses on playing in LA or wherever he ends up.

I think it came down to a rebuild vs playoff for them, we dont have nothing we dont want to part with if they aim the playoff... one thing for sure it would not have been for the like of Kidney and late picks

I can almost guarantee everyone shitting on WPG has never lived there or stayed there for a full year.

As someone who grew up in Manitoba, its a super outdoorsy city. Tons of hunting, world class fishing, camping, hikes, and lakes for marine activities. The city's winters are overblown because its almost Winnipeg's calling card at this point as no one actually knows/has experienced anything there and just parrot what they've heard from randos online. With global warming, the only major cities that doesn't get as cold as Winnipeg in the winter are Vancouver and the Maritime capitals due to coastal. Its the same cold/snow in WPG, Montreal, Toronto, Calgary, Edmonton, etc... They have the extreme heat in the summer (+40C) to the extreme cold (-35C). Neither is consistent and always happens a few times a season, just like the other major cities in those seasons. The city itself has a ton of random and super interactive festivals throughout the year that feed into the seasons. Super multicultural so theres a thousand restaurants that are all very well priced and amazing food from different origins. And because the cost of living is so low, most people who make a good amount of money and live there live like kings and can afford to travel all the time.

It's not nearly as bad as 99% of the people bashing it make it sound, probably based off of the one time the SJ Sharks player complained about wifi or some shit when they were in town or it being dark.

Educate yourselves vs running around like a bunch of meercats following each other whenever someone ahead of you says something "funny".
