Thanks. Still not sure what Winnipeg's plans at center would be if this deal comes together as reported:

LW
C
RW
Connor
???
Ehlers
Perfetti
???
Niederreiter
Iafollo
Lowry
Vilardi
Barron
Gustafsson
Appleton
Perfetti should be a center. Awful at faceoffs but plays a great center game apart from that.

Shift Perfetti to C and flip Niederreiter over to LW. Put Vilardi in 2RW slot

Conner - ??? - Ehlers
Niederreiter - Perfetti - Vilardi
Iaffallo - Lowry - Stenlund
Barron - Gus - Apples

Our centers last season were Kopitar/Danault/Lizotte/Kupari

Blake Lizotte being our 3C and playing with Fiala a majority of the time.
Then looks like the Jets will be without a 2C next season. WIll probably have to ride out Shef's contract as well.

Garbage offers were smart offers from the Habs. Offering anything of significant and then having to overpay PLD would have been a travesty.

Hughes is smart not to cave under the pressure. Its finally nice to have a GM that has a measured approach to these issues.

I wish PLD best in LA and hope he finds stability there. For a player of his stature, LA is a good place to be rather than wasting away in a bottom feeder market like Wpg.

If Winnipeg gets Valiardi in return, that's a win IMO.
PLD has no stature hes a 60 pt center.

Kadri, Braden Schenn, Alex Tanguay level players dont/didnt get this level of attention

PLD will stick to being the same player he is just wont be as talked about now

As an Oilers fan I like La doing this cause imo it’s not a great trade. Villardi isn’t far off what Dubois was last year and was drafted a year later so they are similar players. I don’t think this trade improves the team overall especially if Dubois gets some massive extension.

As a Jets fan I don't love the direction this team has taken - it would be a perfect time to cash in on our disgruntled vets and rebuild properly.

But

As far as returns go I don't hate it depending on other pieces. Seattle's proving you can win rolling 4 second lines - guess that's the blueprint.

Iafallo is a cap casualty. Vilardi is probably the best you can hope for when it comes to young players because i don't think teams were lining up with 1sts for Dubois.

LOL, LA. Going all-in just to get spanked in 1st round by the Oilers/Avalanche for the next 3 years. Then Doughty and Kopitar will either be gone or significantly declined and they'll be forced to do a Philly level scorched earth rebuild.

I 100% agree with you. The problem Hughes had was twofold:

1. PLD declared his desire to be a Hab
2. PLD is Quebecois

Hughes didn't back down on his rebuild plans. He saw the trap that was set and navigated his way through it by offering Wpg garbage! lol

The big question now is what will L.A. sign him to on a longterm contract. I think anything over 8M will be a problem.

Yea the habs were smart not to push high quality assets for a player who isnt an upgrade over their current 1C

If the habs want a better center, smarter to try and draft 1 next 2 years or wait to see if another better and bigger name hits the trade block or UFA next 2 years.

They could get a 1C as soon as 2025-2026 if Carlsson drops to 5th OA.

Iafallo is a 3rd line defensive winger that's overpaid by about a million, Vilardi is a 2nd line scoring winger who misses about 35% of the season due to injuries.
PLD is inconsistent, quit on two teams and because he is selfish and has one foot in Montreal. Jets win this trade.

Is this a joke? They got to the SC final with Suzuki and Danault. Suzuki, Dach, 2023 1st (if it isn't Michkov) would easily be good enough if surrounded with good wingers and d.
Lol in the fakest season of all time. I don't see how you pass up on acquiring a Quebecois 1C who perfectly fits into the Suzuki/Caufield age group and desperately wants to play for you but hey as long as the fans are convinced.

Would be a great deal for LA. Villardi is damaged goods. Dubois will be a really good 1/2 center for years to come.

And sad news for Montreal if true.
Its a blessing for the Habs. This was an unnecessary distration. To give up significant assets for PLD then have to pay him 9M AAV (as reported) for a 2C. Coupled with PLD's potential to want out when the going gets tough...

The best move was no move for the Habs.

As for L.A. i can see the merit in this trade. Kopitar's shelf life is maybe another year or 2. They really needed a 2C.
