Gotta feel for Danault. The guy signed in LA to be a #2 C with PP time and now he’s going to be behind Kopitar, PLD and maybe even Byfield soon.

As a Jets fan I don't love the direction this team has taken - it would be a perfect time to cash in on our disgruntled vets and rebuild properly.

But

As far as returns go I don't hate it depending on other pieces. Seattle's proving you can win rolling 4 second lines - guess that's the blueprint.

You sure did kick a hornets nest. Been saying this for some time. There's a couple of King's fans that are ok with the idea, but most are dead set against it. PLD makes so much sense.
As a Sharks fan I wish Rob Blake was deluded enough to think he can build a long term Cup contender around Byfield, Vilardi, Kaliyev, Kupari, Clarke etc. I would keep Byfield and Clarke unless a true superstar was on the table but everyone else should be seen as a trade asset.

Fans don't seem to understand that the point of a rebuild isn't necessarily to build your team through the draft. It's to accumulate pick and prospect capital that you can use as cash in hand to acquire established impact players. LA was patient in building up their war chest and are now parlaying their surplus of young centers and right shot defensemen into proven stars like Fiala and Dubois who they can lock up through their prime years at a fair price. Not too different from what Vegas has done.

Incorrect. Blake told him his role when he signed. He even mentioned in his interview post signing that he's aware he'd mentor the younger guys as the contract goes on.

Quinton Byfield is a LW and hasn't been used as a center all season.

If true, LA gets a solid player. Ignore those saying different. Players like him don’t come around often (power centre). I don’t know squat about the guys coming back but I’m sure Chevy did okay considering everything.

PPG the last two years when healthy. More like a mid-30's goal scorer when pro-rated.
Feel free to come back to me when he actually goes through a season without a significant injury. Happy to look at his performance in next offseason.

It’s really a shame he’s dropped to a 20 goal scorer. We were so excited when he potted 44 goals in his second season. Ah well.

Let’s remove the Laine talk here. That was just brought in by a sour fan from a team not getting Dubois “for free”.

Those garbage offers were going on since last offseason.

The “for free” and ”Dvorak, Kidney and Florida 1st” will forever be a meme on these forums.
Garbage offers were smart offers from the Habs. Offering anything of significant and then having to overpay PLD would have been a travesty.

Hughes is smart not to cave under the pressure. Its finally nice to have a GM that has a measured approach to these issues.

I wish PLD best in LA and hope he finds stability there. For a player of his stature, LA is a good place to be rather than wasting away in a bottom feeder market like Wpg.

If Winnipeg gets Valiardi in return, that's a win IMO.

He literally stated one of the key reasons he wanted to test free agency was because he didn't see himself as a third line center.

Go back and watch his zoom call post signing. He knew what he signed up for.

Well, you turned a third overall into cap dump and no second round pick 2024, so cant say you did much better....
a third overall that never amounted to much and signed an offer sheet...that was not a trade. You could say that all teams that lose free agents didn't do very well with the ROI.

We tried him at center and it just didn't work.

He's a 2nd line RW'er.

Thanks. Still not sure what Winnipeg's plans at center would be if this deal comes together as reported:

LW
C
RW
Connor
???
Ehlers
Perfetti
???
Niederreiter
Iafollo
Lowry
Vilardi
Barron
Gustafsson
Appleton
