We have a glut in our Bottom 6, and given how tight we are against the cap he's expendable

25yrs old, makes 1.25M.... what kind of pick/prospect/Min wage NHLer could we get for him?

We might get a 7th.
Other GMs aren’t stupid. They know what our cap situation and depth is. They know he will likely hit waivers. They won’t pay much if they think they will have a chance to get him for free.

Maybe one offers a late round pick just so they could get him without worrying a lower seeded team claims him. But then again most of the teams that would want him would already be those lower seeded teams.

Dubas even overpays his 4th liners for some reason. Does he have top 9 upside?

Was really surprised at how effective he was against McDavid on some nights. He’s a good player.

Would he be picked if he was waived?

Good chance, has size, can play center shown short spurts where he can put up some offence. So he is the type of player teams might take a flyer on.

Not than he is anything great or is likely to become better than a competent 3rd line player, but, free is free.

This time of year? Nothing/waivers.

3-4 months from now, maybe a 5-7th depending on his play and how many people get injured.

I kinda wanted him on the Sens for a depth player earlier in the pffseason, I'd still be open to something like Engvall for Clarke Bishop. Would probably throw in a 7th I guess.

Honestly, I don't know why Engvall continually falls out of favour with the Leafs. He's one of their few defensively competent and fast bottom-sixers. He always starts in the doghouse then somehow ends up on the 3rd line because he's actually decent.

He's easily one of their 12 best forwards. There are worse players among their glut of depth forwards, like Simmonds and Ritchie.

He has the talent, but it appears drive is an issue. When he's fighting for a position he's a solid bottom 6 defensive player and ends up getting a spot. Once he gets comfortable he'll become a non-factor though. Frustrating player

He's worth future considerations at this point, nothing more

I think he SHOULD be worth a 4th/5th because he is a solid bottom guy, however in this market I dont think he’ll be anything more than a waiver claim…. and I do think he gets claimed.

Yea, the top end guys are taking up bigger portions of the cap and solid players who fill out rosters, nhl players, arent finding spots at all, and if they do, it’s at league min or PTOs. So… yea. This is the new nhl landscape and engvall isnt flashy enough imo.

Would take him in the flames bottom 6 over the likes of Brad Richardson,Trevor Lewis and Brett Ritchie.

Wrong time of the year for a thread like this (not that it's a bad idea, but the timing is more suited for around e.g. the TDL when teams are banged up and need big depth forwards with some skill).

There's going to be a big waiver dump of fringe guys near the end of training camp, and teams will poach what they need from the exposed guys if there's any hidden gems, plus more proven guys like Alex Chiasson (Vancouver)/ Eric Staal (UFA) are either on PTO or still unsigned so I doubt Engvall gets much of anything. Best to sell high instead of when there's no demand.

Right now, every team has 3-4 prospects on two-way deals who make $725K to $850K against the cap. They're just itching to make the big club. Everyone is healthy, optimism is in the air, and the future is nothing but promise.

There's no market in September for an overpaid depth player. A few months into the season, as teams get nicked up, that can change. Yet this is the time of year when everyone starts sending down good players, exposing them to waivers all at once. In the end, no one puts in a claim because they all have too many players as it is. You'd have to send down yet another guy to make room for the new player, so waivers doesn't result in a lot of player movement around the roster cutoff. You see 12/13th forwards and 6/7 defensemen routinely clear waivers.

What is the market in late September for a barely-there NHL 4th liner, who also makes a little too much money? There isn't one. He'd probably clear waivers too.

That's not to be overly critical of Engvall or anything. It's just that the league is overflowing with prospects trying to make the club right now. Everyone has 14 legit forward candidates today. Everyone can flesh out a fourth line, and they can do it for less money.

Again, as evidenced in this thread; easily the most underrated forward on the Leafs.

Fantastic defensively, one of the best penalty killers in the league in 2019-20, good in transition, not a blackhole offensively, and has a bit of a scoring touch when he's hot. Not to mention the dude is gigantic and is a great skater regardless of size. I fully believe that Keefe doesn't like him for whatever reason (my guess is lack of physicality and consistency), but the guy is such an effective player in virtually every respect and is a perfect bottom-6 player for any team. Didn't have a great 2020-21, but he had moments of being very good.

I don't expect he'll make the team (again) even though he's one of the best 12 forwards, and I expect he'll be acquired by some team for virtually nothing (or nothing if it's on waivers) and they'll be surprised how quietly effective he is.

Seems like a guy that would pass through waivers and then traded for a low pick
