I would start Samsonov at home and Murray on the road but each would have a short leash and any hiccups I would go to Woll
Well I don’t see that happening but you never know with injuries to our goalkeepers

We don't have Marc Andre Fleury here to get Murray half of the 16 wins required to win the Cup.

You nailed it, Murray only carried half the load here, 16/2 is 15

Any reason why you didn't mention the following years Stanley Cup?

View attachment 667220

He won 15/16 games needed to win the cup and you said this

"We don't have Marc Andre Fleury here to get Murray half of the 16 wins required to win the Cup."

that is clearly not needed for him to win the cup.

If you can't see how your statement is a half-truth to make him seem worse than he is, I don't know what to tell you.

Well the most recent time he was part of a stanley cup winning team he needed MAF to get 9 of the 16 required wins. Since that was 6 years ago it really doesn't matter since Murray is no where near the goalie he was at that time so its a moot point. My comment stands......last time Matt Murray was a SC winning goalie he needs MAF to get more than half of the required wins.

You're reaching but sure, that is a better way to phrase it. You can also mention that he had much better stats than Fluery, but that's not good for your narrative.

My "narrative" is that MAF won half (more) of the required games to win the SC. You can go ahead and keep thinking Murray is an answer for our goaltending woes, just make sure his numbers from 6-7 years ago make you feel good.

Anyone concerned with Murray as a goaltender are probably pointing at his performance since those Cup teams.....but hey, Dubas has been bang on when it comes to his goalie evaluations since becoming the Leafs GM.

Depends which Leafs show up, if we play like we did in November when Rielly was out then Murray is a better safe and stable option. If we’re still playing Rielly pond hockey, I like Samsonov better for making saves he has no business making.
Murray is below average it isnt the defense that results in him being a poor hockey player

He had one hot month but he has been very poor outside of that

It’s mostly that he’s calmer in net and we can control the amount of shots that he has trouble with if we play like we did in November. If we’re gambling offensively then it’s easier to live with Samsonov letting in a stinker and making some highlight reel saves.

Go with Sammy… give him a shot at holding the net, knowing he’s playing to win and secure a full time job here.

Use Murray if needed.

The adage is go with the hot goalie going in. If he falters, switch. Repeat. N’est pas?

Option #3.......too early to decide.
Option #4 .....Whoever Keefe, Sanford, and the rest of the Leafs brain trust think is the best choice.

Essentially, the Leafs staff are much more likely to have a greater amount of information to help them make their decision. I don't trust my player evaluation skills enough.to make the decision on partial information.

And of cuurse:

Option #5.....Flip a coin.

Ken Dryden, Montreal Canadiens (1971) ...
Patrick Roy, Montreal Canadiens (1986) ...
Ron Hextall, Philadelphia Flyers (1987) ...
Cam Ward, Carolina Hurricanes (2006) ...
Matt Murray, Pittsburgh Penguins (2016)

Guess who i pick?

Amount all goalie actually active in NHL with at least 10 playoff game played since 2011

Murray is 3rd in gaa, and 10th in save %...

You will probably say he was not as good since their 1st 2 cup but did you watch pittsburgh game... i suggest you to watch game recap and see the quality of scoring chance pittsburg allowed

Exemple in 2019 vs nyi
Of 12 goal he allowed no one was weak goal, was always on a 2v1, guy all alone in front of the net or came from a crease pass right in the middle of defensive boxes.

Murray always been good in playoff, if we see this Murray, i will be fine with it...

I picked Murray but it's honestly based on his track record and not on his season. Who knows if he'll even feel like playing, if he does he'll be on an extremely short leash.

Not sure if the splits are reliable as both players have had some really inconsistent patches but Sammy has been much better at home than the road and Murray was the other way. It may be QOC but maybe not. I would not have started Murray tonight but I guess getting him game minutes is more important than the win right now.
