I was going to post this. It's not conventional, but their stats this season support it.

I'd like to proceed with Murray here based on his previous success in the playoffs. It'd be tough to go against what's happening right now though with Samsonov establishing himself as being closer to "the guy" in net.

Murray is here to be a playoff goalie. He’s been good when healthy, I think he’ll have the net for Game1 unless Samsonov is too hot to take out.

Samsonov has earned it because of his health and play, but I’ve been impressed with Murray this year and wouldn’t be upset if he takes over.

Murray likely should/will get the start if he's good to go.

He's got the playoff pedigree to know what to expect mentally. I also would rather trust him late game when the team needs to shut the door

Murray on a short leash to start.

He has a calmness to his game that settles your team down in big moments. Been there done that. Trust him more in a pressure cooker elimination game. Teams tend to emulate the personality of the goalie and Samsonov is more scramble/panic at times.

That said, I expect Samsonov will rotate in at some point.

I don't see either one of these guys stealing us a game or a series.
You must admit they didn't exactly set the standards for excellence at their previous teams, and they were bottom teams.
Either can lose you a game but neither will win you one.

I think I know exactly why Dubas signed Murray: a guy that's gotten it done twice in the playoffs. We had competent goalies the last few years but neither had the x-factor when it matters most.

But Samsonov has clearly claimed the job and I'm going with him until he loses it outright. The moment he falters and Murray's healthy, I'll change my mind in a millisecond.

I would say Sammy Smiles has earned the net for game 1 thus far. Likely won't keep it for long if he has a poor outing and then it would be Murray's net.

Depends which Leafs show up, if we play like we did in November when Rielly was out then Murray is a better safe and stable option. If we’re still playing Rielly pond hockey, I like Samsonov better for making saves he has no business making.

If the forwards/team match their defensive efforts from when the D corps were decimated earlier in the season either goalie should be capable. Short leashes though.
