Have to play Othmann with skill guys if you're gonna play him. If he's sitting next to Carrick and Kaliyev on the third line that's not gonna cut it.
won't be surprised if Drury claims Valimaki, what I (and maybe the league) saw last spring was how Fla built its winning depth w mid or late career Euro D (Forsling, OEL, Kulikov, Mikkola)
I'm still judging Kali. I think he has some flaws but also has some skills.Have to play Othmann with skill guys if you're gonna play him. If he's sitting next to Carrick and Kaliyev on the third line that's not gonna cut it.
If you were the GM of the Rangers, what would you do at the deadline to give yourself the best chance at beating either Washington or Florida/Toronto in the first round?
The AHL ain't the NHL. Othmann has been playing well lately. We'll see if it translates.
He has skill, but he's slow. I know, I know, you can be a slow skater in the NHL. But when your team is slow and plays slow, having slow skaters isn't putting that player in a position to succeed. If the idea is Kaliyev to get on the forecheck first on his line then you already put him in a disadvantage. We don't have enough supporting skaters, or move the puck fast enough to make up for these slower skaters.I'm still judging Kali. I think he has some flaws but also has some skills.
I'd like to see Oth get a fair shot.
If I was able to speak to Drury I would tell him to give Jones another chance in a more zone oriented system. Our chase the puck with slower guys doesn't work for the team. I still have a little hope for Jones.
I totally agree with you on this teams speed issue. Speed kills and we have almost none. That has to be one of our top priorities. Kali is not a player a slow team can afford BUT if the team is remade with a lot of speed maybe Kali can find a role? I can not say because I have not seen enough of him yet.He has skill, but he's slow. I know, I know, you can be a slow skater in the NHL. What does he excel at? Well, it's shooting the puck, right? So it's hard to really judge him because he's not in a position where he can take more than 1-2 shots a game.
This deadline isn't for getting the best chance to beat them in the first round. This deadline will be the best chance to get assets back, or put themselves in a better position for the wild card race, should they not lose a couple more games here.If you were the GM of the Rangers, what would you do at the deadline to give yourself the best chance at beating either Washington or Florida/Toronto in the first round?
You know what is kind of interesting to me is that I have seen people concerned with Othmann's upside but if we just compare Kreider to Othmann at the same age:
Kreider
D+1
NCAA - 23 points in 38 games
D+2
NCAA - 24 points in 32 games
D+3
NCAA - 45 points in 44 games
NHL Playoffs - 7 points in 18 games
D+4
AHL - 23 points in 48 games
NHL - 3 points in 23 games
Othmann
D+1
OHL - 97 points in 66 games + impressive 24 points in 19 games in the playoffs
D+2
OHL - 67 points in 56 games + 25 points in 23 games in the playoffs and Memorial Cup victory
D+3
NHL - 0 points in 3 games
AHL - 49 points in 67 games + 5 points in 10 playoff games
D+4
AHL - 20 points in 27 games
If anything, Othmann has proven he can score at a better rate than Kreider at the same age. The kid has a nose for the net and knows how to score goals. I think he's going to be a guy they need to let 'cook' for a couple of years but his tenacity and ability to score will lend him to being a really nice piece long term on this team.
I'd trade Lindgren to Washington and hope they play him.If you were the GM of the Rangers, what would you do at the deadline to give yourself the best chance at beating either Washington or Florida/Toronto in the first round?

If I had one move, (which is how I am interpreting this) it would be a Legit LHD partner for Adam Fox.If you were the GM of the Rangers, what would you do at the deadline to give yourself the best chance at beating either Washington or Florida/Toronto in the first round?
Or this.I'd trade Lindgren to Washington and hope they play him.
We could send Lindgren to Washington in a three-team deal here. Two birds with one stone. If I had one move, (which is how I am interpreting this) it would be a Legit LHD partner for Adam Fox.
But I also would not be a buyer

wrong ....Gotta force an injured and ineffective Kreider into the lineup over a first rounder who has performed well in the AHL.
...x2I’m ok with that, got to make sure teams think Kreider is 100% so they trade for him. Nobody wants an injured player.
no prob w/Oth on the roster, but let's be clear, it is not CK that's blocking himYou know what is kind of interesting to me is that I have seen people concerned with Othmann's upside but if we just compare Kreider to Othmann at the same age:

I actually respectfully disagree here. I think we are doing the “we don’t want to promote him if he’s going to be line 4 thing” So yeah I think guys like Kreider/Smith are the ones blocking Othmannno prob w/Oth on the roster, but let's be clear, it is not CK that's blocking him
that honor goes to Jimmy Vesey
