They should give it to Drouin, that way the french media could castrate Suzuki for the team's failures lol, that old rinse and repeat Jaffy.

If I am being honest here, Josh has more of a deer in the headlights look.
You talk a lot about French media (rightfully so) but the one guy I’ve heard ask Suzuki the most honest questions about what the hab captain represents, including “parle-tu français?” was Knuckles on his podcast, and it was all light-hearted and honest I thought.. If someone’s going to be either not learning basic French, or be annoyed at the questions he’ll keep getting about it could totally prefer to pass. Suzuki for example is no less of a player with an A, though I think like most he is the “chosen one”. He’s clearly the face of the franchise now.

Nowhere land
Question.

Say they bring Subban back, is he or is he not the next captain?
Yes because he can take some pressure. He's a media animal and he learned a bit of french when he was playing here. He doesn't really know how to speak french, he would be clownesque saying few words and that will make media laught and after all, that would be all media fun. Fans and media love him, nobody can resist his smile. My fear is Suzuki being annoyed and distracted by the media circus. Better leave him alone doing his job. But if he's named captain and he suffers, I can say I told you.

I think they’ll want someone on a long contract to be C so no
Yes, that makes sense. I think chances Subban coming back here is 1%.

So Bedard at 18 years old becomes an option but Suzuki at 23 is not one? I got ya, yeah, your logic is amazing...
I didn’t say give it to him at 18. I said, it becomes his team and he becomes an option. You give it to him when he is ready, it’s still his team when he isn’t captain.

I voted Gally (not just because he’s my favourite) but to be a bridge captain to allow Suzuki to develop a bit more before he takes on that monumental burden of being the captain as it’s not an easy job. So yes I think Suzuki will be captain (if he doesn’t get traded) I just think he needs a little more time to ease into it to help him as a player

The same was said about Koivu.
Koivu was rare when it comes to being introverted and captain. He’s actually my favourite player ever and he wasn’t a child when he took over as captain like Suzuki might

Yeah cuz Carey is so extroverted, we all know how much he enjoys talking to the media...
What player actually enjoys talking to the media? He’s also not a kid like Suzi so enough with the whataboutisms it’s weak

The fact that this is even a topic proves that the team doesn’t have a player that has earned being captain yet

That's true, most successful captains, I can think of off the top of my head are usually known for being more vocal.

Actually Koivu was young when he was given the C. I'd have to look at the dates. But my guess is Suzuki wouldn't be much younger than Koivu was. I've met Koivu several times, though I've never met Suzuki. From what I've been told, the young man is mature beyond his years. Very similar to how Koivu was as captain. Doesn't seem to get down when things are tough, and doesn't get too excited when things are going well.

Maybe they should go Captainless next season.. it’s pretty clear that they want to finish very low in the standings again for the 2023 draft. Tank the season without a Captain, draft Fantilli or better, and then name Suzuki Captain for the start of the 23-24 season. I think I like this option best.
Y'know what... I agree with this. Who wants to captain a sinking ship? Let the Habs come back stronger and filled with prospects a year from now, then hand Suzuki the "C" when the position comes with a sense of hope.

I think the introvert/extrovert thing is the least important quality. The job of Captain takes place almost entirely in the dressing room and on the bench, where fans can't hear. Weber was about as quiet a C as I remember, but the guy was apparently a great captain.

Problem is that Gally is signed for 5 more years..

Who do YOU think should be Captain?

My pick is Edmunson for the remainder of his contract or possibly beyond if we resign him.

He can keep the seat warm for Suzuki. I don’t believe it’s the right time yet. Unnecessary pressure during a tank/rebuild.
And if we were competing this year, would you say unnecessary pressure when trying to win?

No. The thing is that the media is gonna play stupid and act like we are trying to win this season. They are gonna play stupid and try to create outrage. Everyone and their grandmother knows we are trying to tank next season but the media will play real dumb and outraged, they will ask Nick the same old dumb questions over and over and over. I’m already annoyed and it hasn’t even started yet.

They already said that there will be a captain next season.
