Binnington is at -5.1 goals saved above expected before tonight’s game and it’s gotten worse after that first goal tonight. An average goaltender would’ve let in 5 fewer goals than he has. Let’s not spread nonsense that it’s all the Blues defense. It isn’t good, but Binner has been terrible this year.
How is addressing that Binnington has looked bad in a bad defensive system spreading nonesense? That's exactly what's happened. all throughout this year, he's played in a bottom-third defensive system. Coincidentally, this is the first year in which he's been negative in expected saves. You can't even say he's been bad this year given he played well up until late December/early January. I have no problem saying that Binnington hasn't played well, but it's more than reasonable to think that the team's piss-poor defense is more to blame.

Hell, looking at Husso backs that up more. He's had to play at a Vezina caliber level to keep this team winning.

Not to absolve Binny, but Borts and Miko each backed off and allowed puck carrier way too much room and way too easy time leading to those goals.

I didn't see a good replay of the first goal but it looked like a pretty good shot to me. As for the second goal? Binny made a great first save, if the team just let's the Flyers pick up the rebound and walk in 1 on 0 a second time f*** em, they get what they deserve.

both can be true. we are not good defensively and he needs to be much better. quite frankly, i have more confidence in him regaining form than team regaining it's defensive form on consistent basis this season.

Borts just backed off and let konecny do what he wanted. it was nice shot but i thought binny was off angle. but if borts didn't get out of hs way to allow him free reign..

Yes, both can be true. I never once said that Binnington has been great and the team is all to blame. The team has been bad defensively and Binnington hasn't played well. Given the historic evidence, Binnington's play has gone down with the team's inability to play defense. Almost, as if, this season has proven that Binnington doesn't play well in a God-awful defensive system.

Funny how my initial statement covered both of these points.

Yet another terrible 1st Period by The Blues at home against a bad team. We've started the drive to The Playoffs. Why are they doing this, over and over??? :(
