5 mil for 3 years or 4 mil for 5. I think of our pending UFAs Danault is still the only one worth keeping minus Perry. Aside from in OT, Ducharme is playing Danault in a role he is suited for. Under Julien I wouldn't offer Danault a contract.

Danault ain't worth more than 5, and he's not even worth the term that Bergy offered him last time. This is a guy who's going to have 2-3 more good seasons then become a Dominic Moore role player. Moore was a useful guy but not 5x6. I'd honestly give Danault 7 years if he were willing to accept frontloading the deal a little and averaging the AAV down in the 3.5-4 range.

Unfortunately, if Danault insists on playing as a 1-2C with 1-2C money then he's in for a breakup with the team and likely going to get bought out from wherever he goes. It's not my place to say what he should do with his life.

That being said, he's already got an advantage over other Habs players with regards to sponsorship due to his heritage. He may end up throwing long-term money in the toilet by leaving for a few extra UFA dollars. We all know being a former French-speaking Hab makes you more likely to coach the team in the future or get an office job.
Totally. Bergevin always say he won’t overbid on UFA and thats the way to do. Danault, tatar, armia and cie are « our » UFA. But thats not a reason to overbid on them. If they want to stay. They will have to be less hungry. Like you said. Probably Danault will earn his 5x6 in minnesota, but gonna be buy out in 4 years and been played for thats bad team for all this time

Gets awfully quiet here when he does well. This team is so much better when he performs like he can.
They're absolutely better when be plays like he can, he's been more like the Danault we know and expect the last 4-5 games.

But he wasn't very good prior, for pretty much all year, so I don't think the criticism was unwarranted.

The whole line was playing like the line that's dominated 5 v 5 play against all comers for the two previous seasons - relentless. Love the clean draw and clean shot for the tying goal!

It wasnt unwarranted, but theres little to no praise when he performs well. His whole line looks like the line we've been seeing for the past 2 seasons. We will be fine if they keep it up.

Don't you know he's barely a third liner?

Wrong according to the last thread title, Poehling was suppose to replace him lol.
In all seriousness , glad his line had a good night. He's playing playing well for some time now on the D side, hoping he can contribute more on the offensive side. +15 too is pretty sweet with his matchups

When/if all three c's are going, we might have a chance to do some damage this year

Nope he's a 3rd liner...a very good one...and he needs to be used as a 3rd liner...

Since the beginning of March he actually has more points than either Suzuki and Kotkaniemi (and has the same number of goals as both of them too) despite having no PP time. Since February first he has more points than KK and only one less than Suzuki. For the whole season he's tied for third amongst all NHL forwards for plus-minus.

I'm sorry for all the haters but without DD (or an adequate replacement) this team would be in deep trouble. Remember when after five games some here were telling us that Jake Evans could easily replace Danault?

I don't know about that. Gallagher and Anderson got pretty lucrative deals which may hunt the Habs in the future. Hopefully, the cap will increase. Also, wasn't Danault rumoured to have refused 30 mil over 5 years?

I hardly doubt, Danault gets more than 4 mil per after a disastrous year, even in the open market. Teams will not pay 5 or 6 mil per for a third liner. I would try to keep Tatar on a Toffoli like friendly deal. The rest I would trade and try to get max return.

With the way danault was playing it was true. Amazing how all you pompom danault guys come in after 3 good games out of 30. Literally 10 percent and say "nana we told he was great" Like we should ignore the rest of this year. Why aren't you guys out there pumping tatars tires? Maybe it was him that finally got danault going, after he spent time on another line? He would not have been critiqued if he had played at this level or even close for even half of those games. He was a steaming pile of garbage for a lot of the year, including losing faceoffs in OT and defending.

I still don't want to see this guy in OT, what a waste of time. MBs plan of "pricer" saving the day in a shootout. We are still playing for the tie under Couch Duc-harem. This is not acceptable.

So don't fall off your high horse after beating Vancouver who we have owned all year with a terrible holtby in net. That is setting a very low bar. Even if you guys can't help yourselves.

I said literally since the beginning of March and February... Kind of more than three games.

Compare GF/GA of every line this season:

Line Combinations - Frozen Tools

Danault's line: 16 GF 3 GA (pretty amazing)
Suzuki's line: 11 GF 11 GA

The season started in january and you think he has been good for almost 2 months? Please check again. Eye test over stats. Gally has 9 EV goals, danault has 13 assists meanwhile tatar has 6 goals and 14 assist and people have said he has been terrible(till the last couple of games)
Look no one scored against perry byron and evans.

Here I will post the whole thing . The only thing I am seeing is they played with each other more than any other line. They are also our highest paid line and he is playing with our two best wingers before this season. They SHOULD be playing well.

DO you know what this chart shows for even strength Suzuki drouin and anderson are the only one responsible for most of our goals. If the bold was true, why did DD put that line back together? Oh right their corsi is even better than the line you showed!! Stat watching makes no sense.

While Corsi may provide a more accurate evaluation of players' contributions to a winning effort than plus-minus (giving a plus to players who are on the ice when a goal is scored and a minus to players who are on the ice when a goal is scored on their own net), it does have its own criticisms. For example, a player is on the ice for 30 shots on net and 20 shots against. This player is a defensive defenseman, and in this situation he only helped create 5 shots on net but his mistakes led to 15 shots against. This tells us his real impact on the game is -10 Corsi, but on the game sheet at the end of the game his Corsi number will be +10.[3] This is because he was playing with better players around him and that boosted his Corsi number. Essentially, a good player playing consistently with bad players will have a lower Corsi number, while a good player playing with great players will get a boost. For this reason, additional advanced metrics, for instance using raw Corsi values adjusted against frequent on-ice teammates', can provide a more accurate assessment of individual players' contributions.

Hes playing "better" sure,
But not 5+ mill a year better, which is the crux of the disdain

See...I don't think there's a 5+M disdain right now. And most of the year, he deserved it...he was not good enough for a 3rd line C. Some people's hatred go way beyond the $ figure.

And yes, despite him playing better, there is NO WAY I give him 5M$. Not even giving him 4M$.

Out of curiosity, when you say you don’t give him 5 or 4, are you basing it on a habs perspective or what he’s worth in the market

I can see why habs can’t afford a long term contract with PD above 5 but I’m sure he’ll get one easily above 5 in the marketplace

If Pageau is worthing 5 M $.... Danault, too.... If he keeps playing the way he does since a good week, and like he played the two seasons before.

Less AVG time on ice than last two years, less AVG offensive zone starts compared to last year, separated from his line mates at time (the ones who apparently carry him), still has the most minutes against top offensive opposition and my guy is sitting pretty just shy of 0.5 PPG and a +15. You just love to see it
