Eric Engles.... little over overboard with the impact Danault has on the team.

The takeaway was obvious — that Danault’s importance to the team was largely undersold in the aftermath of his off-season comments about being unwilling to just lay down and accept a reduced role, and that his slow start and his failure to produce a goal until Game 25 only further masked just how valuable he truly was to Montreal’s success.

In the jar'o
Habs fans are mean and jealous.
That is most of you guys who come here often to bash Danault and Drouin.
The article says quebecers players receive most of the hate.

Please read that from tva sport.
DOSSIER CHOC | Les partisans du CH sont «méchants» et «jaloux» - TVA Sports

Don't have the translation so it's better you can read french or ask a bilingual to translate.
Spare me the persecution complex. Are you really so butthurt that Francophone players receive criticism that you need to cry racism on 2 different threads? If Danault didn't open his big mouth and played well he wouldn't be getting critized.

I know but I still can't accept the fact that Danault tried to f*** the Habs that gave him such an opportunity lol

For god's sake. I remember the OUTRAGE right when Bergevin offered Subban a bridge contract. How DARE he try to lowball PK Subban when he had the right to do.

Now Danault who was a major contributor in the last few years and is making about the average NHL salary asks for a raise and everybody here now hates him for it. Crazy how the narrative changes when we're discussing Danault.

He wanted to get free agency money. No different than Gally and Price. It wont be 5.7 million like he wanted, but I'm sure he could get 5 million from another team too.

Because talent and offence gets you paid in this league, not mucking it up along the boards and back checking. I hope you see the difference.

he’s had a couple good games as of late but not scoring in a YEAR!! The vision of a 3rd liner and given massive ice time and best wingers for years has had some fans and himself delusional that he is actually a top 6.

Not any more. 4.5 tops as a UFA and even that I wouldn’t be thrilled about.

Would you as a GM feel comfortable giving PD 6 million a year? What does this have to do with Subban anyway? Bergevin also gave Karl Alzner 22 million dollars, why not mention that?

Im sure a team like Columbus that desperately needs centers would give him 5.

I don’t know if they give him 6 years + though. Since the pandemic hit North America teams haven’t been giving out those long term contracts to forwards (outside of Montreal). Especially with the cap staying relatively flat for the next few years.

I’d like to see the Habs keep him though at a reasonable cap hit, maybe the Toffoli deal, 4 years $17 million. He’s a good third line centre who can move up to #2 in case of injury.

Danault was offered a raise.........from his 3M to go up to 5M and he said no..............there is no outrage. It was stupid on his part to refuse. Simple stuff.....he has gone on to lower his value at this point.....good for the Habs, but not so good for him. Again, no biggie, simple stuff really.
I would imagine he will be firing his agent soon....

You think 5M/year for Danault is a lowball offer ?

Let's not get ahead of ourselves. He's had what 3-4 good games this season ? He's got two goals recently, good for him. But let's see how he ends the season.

I had to laugh that after last night he's tied with Jesperi (and ahead of Nick) in Points/60 at 5 on 5. I don't think it's particularly telling of anything but after all the back and forth about that particular stat as it related to other players, it's def funny.

5 mil for 3 years or 4 mil for 5. I think of our pending UFAs Danault is still the only one worth keeping minus Perry. Aside from in OT, Ducharme is playing Danault in a role he is suited for. Under Julien I wouldn't offer Danault a contract.

Danault ain't worth more than 5, and he's not even worth the term that Bergy offered him last time. This is a guy who's going to have 2-3 more good seasons then become a Dominic Moore role player. Moore was a useful guy but not 5x6. I'd honestly give Danault 7 years if he were willing to accept frontloading the deal a little and averaging the AAV down in the 3.5-4 range.

Unfortunately, if Danault insists on playing as a 1-2C with 1-2C money then he's in for a breakup with the team and likely going to get bought out from wherever he goes. It's not my place to say what he should do with his life.

That being said, he's already got an advantage over other Habs players with regards to sponsorship due to his heritage. He may end up throwing long-term money in the toilet by leaving for a few extra UFA dollars. We all know being a former French-speaking Hab makes you more likely to coach the team in the future or get an office job.
