DD is going to run it back this season with a few tweaks, which is the right thing to do
1) they have a group of top prospects who are from 0.5-3 years away (Painter, Crawford, MIller, Tait, Caba), given the age and salary of this team, last thing you want to do is strip the farm system to add expensive over 30 players
2) They have no money, at this point they're at the 100% tax threshold, so a $20M FA really costs $40M.
3) A lot of FAs are marginal improvements, you don't pay a FA to replace Rojas with a meh CF and buy an additional WAR for $20-30M.
4) Most trade proposals are "wack a mole," trade Bohm and who plays 3B? Sosa and LH (Clemons?). And so on. When the kids are ready, you can trade the guy blocking them for anything of value.
The Phillies won 95 games with Walker/Phillips as their 5th starter. This season they'll have Painter. This team ain't broken. They could use another RP, and a stronger bench.
The best strategy is minor tweaks, see how the first half rolls, then at the AS break:
1) the old players got old, sell
2) they need "X" or "Y", trade
3) some kids force their way into the lineup, Crawford platooning with Rojas, Kemp as supersub, Johnson as 6th starter/RP. Stand pat.
