Trout is still out there.
Painter is right on the cusp of playing in the MLB & has picked up about where he left off after his injury. There isn’t a team in this league trading that type of pitching prospect.
Now where have I heard this beforeDont worry, run it back this year and let the prospects marinate in the minors, then in 2027 we'll be ready!!!!!!
Even better than running it back!Dont worry, run it back this year and let the prospects marinate in the minors, then in 2027 we'll be ready!!!!!!
They'll just run it back.Part of me hopes this team doesn’t make the playoffs. Just to see the fallout.
Painter is 100% on an innings limit this year.. Which is worsened by the fact he hurt his UCL in spring training of 2022 and then the Phillies didn't have him get surgery until August of that year pushing his recovery back about 4 months.I just worry that when Painter is in his prime and dominating, the team around him will be garbage and theyll end up trading him anyway. And thats if he doesnt keep getting hurt and hits his potential.
I appreciate not wanting to mortgage the future but this team was built pretty much exclusively to have a window of 3-5 years which is already on the back end. I feel like you kinda have to double down on this current team and adding Tucker would make a huge impqct.
Even better than running it back!
I'm pretty sure when Phillies signed Harper they gave him the biggest contract in MLB history since it was shortly before the Angels then made Trout the biggest like a little bit later. If he wants to be bitchy and try to get more then hold-out and just completely destroy any semblance of respect from the fandom.Yeah, let's worry about extending the guy who still has another 47 years left on his contract rather than trying to improve the current team. Glad Dave has his priorities in order
Supposedly Yankees are also talking to Pete Alonso. Williams can't give up meatballs to Alonso if they're on the same team. Brilliant move by the Yankees lolNever would have played the Mets if not for Williams blowing a save against them in the WC by throwing Alonso a 9th inning meatball.

I doubt he throws much more than 70 innings this season and probably little chance of him being a starter for a long playoff run (if a long playoff run even occurs)
So you're basically say Painter is going to have restrictions until Wheeler is 36 (possibly even 37 if they still have some restrictions on him for 2026).
We've seen so many star pitchers in their mid 30s not just 'taper off', but literally go off a cliff. Go from being a Cy Young contender to being a back end of the rotation guy within a few month period.
If you look at the position players do you see more guys who you believe will get significantly better for the 2026 season or see more guys you think will start (or continue) to decline more for 2026?
Punting next year or going 'run-back' (which is almost the same thing) when so many other teams have gotten significantly better is just giving up on championship aspirations and no matter what Middleton says to fans it's just trying to gaslight them.
