Topper needs to be investigated for throwing this game lol

Brings Walker in with the bases loaded.

Walker has so far faced 2 batters and walked 2 runs in.

Bullpen still not up.

If your plan was to bring in Walker you should have just sat as much as your starting lineup as possible. Its the same thing every f***ing time so it’s not like you’re winning that game so why waste people’s time?

It's amazing this team is going to win almost 100 games while having an auto loss built in every 5 games for 3/4ths of the season

The Royals have scored one run in 36 innings.

In terms of this game tonight, they can't tell us how they care about home field yey their actions in regards to the 5th spot say otherwise. Just get 2 more wins for the bye.

My word, the Dad's won on a triple play.
Bruntlett's was better

Would be nice to string together a few here with LAD having a tough series. Padres have won like 40 of their last 55 or something insane

The Dodgers have 2 more against SD then end with 3 against the Rockies

Padres are looking like this years Diamondbacks. Don't wanna face them.

Thanks to the genius Topper throwing away every 5th game, the Padres actually have a chance at passing us and getting the top seed in the NL.

Also really want to commend Dombrowski for letting one good start by Phillips convince him he did not need to add a rotation arm. Truly visionary stuff.

What exactly was available at a reasonable price that would fit under the cap tier (Phillies already giving up too much in LA bonus money, don't need to be giving up draft picks).

Bad luck season, Painter goes down, Abel goes south, Walker loses velo and his splitter, Turnbull gets hurt.

But going into the playoffs, 4 man rotation and deep bullpen.

What will make or break them will be whether the hitters are disciplined enough to stop chasing pitches out of the K zone. That's what killed them last year.

Painter injury was in spring training of 2023. Painter would have been pitching in the rotation last year, and this year if he hadn't gotten hurt sure... but to say they didn't come into 2024 knowing Painter wasn't an option at all would be ridiculous. BTW, the Phillies then had him 'rehab' a torn UCL for half of last season and he didn't get surgery until almost August.

Also Abel was showing worrying signs last year. Not to the 'fall apart this year' extant for sure, but in a "wouldn't be the worst thing if they traded him now and got value if they added a starting piece to the MLB roster"

And all of that doesn't change where the Phillies were at the trade deadline and some teams were seemingly trying to give away back of the rotation guys. I'm not going to go back and look at AAV and compare it to the Phillies and what it would do... but it was IMO kinda obvious and many posters did say they needed to add a 5th starter just to not almost give away every 5th day.

They got lucky a couple starts with randos, but overall it's been a disaster.
