OT: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): When You're Up, It's Never As Good As It Seems, And When You're Down, You Never Think You'll Be Up Again

I think there is money to pay some guys an extra 20m to the cap helps.

I can't see letting Hargraves or Kelce go because of reasonable $$ for their positions. They are the priority of the UFAs.

IMO CJGJ and Bradberry are in the next tier of financial priority.

Scott and Pascal are in the cheap cost probably returning tier.

Can't be sentimental, BG has to be in the cost effective tier. Cox as well, but cheaper. Edwards and white too if the $$ is right.

Dillard and Seo probably get more $$ elsewhere, and we have Jurgens to be G if Kelce is still C, and Stoutland, keep him happy.

Everyone else is gonzo.

  • I think Hargraves has priced himself out of our range. Not sure it's a great idea to pay him top dollar when it's going to be hard to replicate this season again. Doesn't seem to be Howie's way (unless he takes a hometown discount, which you can't expect IMO).
  • To be clear about Kelce, I think he retires or re-signs. I think he'll retire if we win the SB tho.
  • CJGJ is so good, he's my #1 re-sign priority. Bradberry I want to keep, but I can't see it unless (again) he takes a discount.
  • Scott I think we keep because he'll be cheap & we won't pay Miles. We just don't pay RBs like that, especially with Miles' checkered success here. Pascal would be a nice returnee. Depends if anyone else wants him, I guess.
  • If BG is cool with reducing salary & keep his reduced snap count, then heck yeah I want him here. Not sure if he'll do that tho. Same as Cox.
Edwards is very important to us I think, but historically we don't pay LBs and we have Nakobe Dean waiting. Isn't a Howie thing to give Edwards the money someone else will. Kyzhir will prob move on as well since he had such a good year.
  • Dillard I can see staying, but again I see it as another team will probably gamble on him with more cash. Seu I have a sinking feeling will stay.

We have something like $4.5 million on the cap for the offseason at the moment.

The Eagles will enter the 2023 offseason with $28,388,912 in dead money.

Fletcher Cox $15,359,292
Brandon Brooks $9,797,237
Jalen Reagor $1,802,850
Anthony Harris $997,412
Davion Taylor $208,073

Howie can make moves and make that number a lot bigger of course, but that's where we stand right now. Gonna be lots of casualties and compensation picks heading our way probably, so let's hope we get this SB and draft well.

Yea I think the hard part for "us not in the know" is what are we going to do at the position? If we don't have Hargraves, we just have Davis under contract at the position...(edit forgot about Milton Williams) so who we going to get as (multiple) replacements. Hard to know the thought process there. If they have a target (like Hargraves was) in UFA, we move on.

I can see like a 2yr deal for JH ect.

And secondly, Dillard...there is NO way someone doesn't pay him. The only way he comes back is because he's over the moon wanting to play here, and takes <way less> $$ than he's going to get from UFA.

Not that you can really ever predict these things, but I am reasonably confident a DT will be in strong consideration fairly early again. There are a good 4 or 5 top 50ish options besides Jalen Carter. They come in all sorts of flavors too. You've got 1 Tech monstrous human beings like 6'4" 360 lb Siaki Ika. Mazi Smith is ~330 but has burst that looks like it would be scary even up a level. Bresee can kind of do everything, although you wouldn't ever want him at 1 Tech full time. Then you've got the smaller 3 Techs like Moro Ojomo (Texas) and Calijah Kancey (Pitt).

There's also the Milton Williams option.

For those questioning giving the draft capital up for Sean Payton.

1) Hackett killed the Broncos for the first half of the season last year.
2) The defense is set... I mean set they are just wondering who will coordinate it Fangio (LOL comes back to DC) or talk Evero to stick around.
3) Add in Javonte Williams, Garrett Bolles, KJ Hamler, Tim Patrick who were all injured last year it's really like having a draft class right there.
4) They lost most games by 1 possession. Payton alone making game day calls should help make up probably half of those losses.

This is basically what I expect from Howie. Maybe Cox on a sweet deal if he likes the idea of less reps/less cash...but otherwise, draft + Milton Williams & Jordan Davis is what I expect

not surprised..won't be surprised if he "unretires"..but it does put the Bucs in need of a QB...cause Baggert and Trask are not the answer and we have no cap space, in fact less than none..gonna be a interesting to see what they do and just how bad we are after it

I get the value of a good/great coach can change things incredibly...but nah. Not doing it.

Masterclass is pick mismanagement by the Broncos rn

We will see.

Most of the experts on ESPN and NFL Radio love it. This is the one guy who has the cache to tell Russ to get in line. Shit most people thought Brees was as bad when Sean got him in New Orleans... how'd that end up?
A first and a second, not to mention the inevitable tampering penalties since that was blatantly admitted to also

The picks that hurt are more the Wilson trade then this one. This is technically Bradley Chubb and a Second for Payton and a 3rd.

Last offseason was the disaster this one is fixing that mess.

Hire a coach hoping he brings you Aaron Rodgers. (No Rodgers)
Panic and trade what they did for Russell Wilson.
Russell and Hackett can't work together and lose a bunch of games by 8 or less.
Hackett gets fired and the team instantly looks better.

They probably go 10-7 with a better coach...which puts them as a wildcard instead of Miami.

Now you hire a coach that won't let Russell be the diva he was last year.

Am I the only one who thinks Payton is way overrated?

Don't get me wrong, certainly a good coach, but having only one Super Bowl appaerance in like 15 years with Brees still sounds pretty underachieving.

And if we're gonna blame his 7-9 seasons on poor cap management, well hello to Denver who just spent ALL the draft picks on him and Russ (and are also paying Russ 245 millions).

Not really sure that trading further assets for him will be the instant fix many imagine.

Furthermore, they're still in the same division as Reid/Mahomes and the same conference as Allen and Burrow.
