I still don't get how teams don't have a coach that is specifically responsible for time and game management.

I also don't understand how punting is still a thing past the middle of the field or that it is still so prevalent in general. Especially later in the game. I just don't understand it. You need a stop anyways. Defending less of the field is easier and if you need a 3 and out anyways from them, it really does not matter where that happens (provided it is outside of field goal range).


Oh well. As expected it is the 49ers. Scary team but they certainly were not great today.

There typically are staff in the booth with pre-determined info designed to help with these things.

Often with things like 4th Down decisions, they're done with sliding scales. A team might for example have separate charts for considering them as 1, 4, and 7 Point favorites. It's done this way to allow coaches to read the gamescript a bit.
