I always thought Sherman was destined for TV, he was always tremendously articulate. How has he been doing? This is the first I've seen

I've watched literally thousands of NFL and college football--hell, I am watching the game tonight.

But this sport is basically not viable if you give a f*** about brain injuries. It's a devil's bargain. There is no safe version of this sport. If you play it, you will very likely sustain brain injuries. Period.

The notion that there's an instant "concussion protocol" in this sport or in hockey or in anything else is a f***ing joke to try to avoid that truth. You can't look at a guy in a tent 4 minutes after head impact and figure out if he has a brain injury. They manifest in very different ways. They sometimes take days--hell, a week--to truly show themselves, and decline or improvement in condition is rarely linear.

I've had concussions I felt right away and cleared up to normal in a week. I had another I didn't notice for 2 days and f***ing killed me for months after. They suck ass, and they are not broken bones. You don't just look at a guy and go "oh, yep."

A real concussion protocol would be if you suspect one, the guy sits for evaluation for a long period of time. A week, whatever. Probably much longer. No football activity. Actual medical monitoring.

Would that ever fly? In this league, with this money involved? No!

So it's a devil's bargain. But I hate the f***ing farce of safety, or pretending this is an isolated issue or a Dolphins problem.

I think there could be, but it will never happen. They would have to go back to something like it was before all the plastic protective gear. Thin leather pads, light leather helmet. Less protection would force players to play more safely instead of relying on their equipment to protect them. Basically make it more like rugby. But it will never happen.
