OT: Philadelphia Eagles (NFL): When You're Up, It's Never As Good As It Seems, And When You're Down, You Never Think You'll Be Up Again

I am not 100% sure either but I think tankathon is fairly reliable and they are saying 9th overall. (SOS is the decider I believe).
And I thought you guys don't owe any picks any longer for Sammy D? Thought that was a 2nd and 4th in 2022?

Panthers.com tells me that you guys have all your picks for the next 2 years + an extra 2nd, 3rd and 4th this year and an extra 5th next year.

If both of these things are true (that you guys hold #9 and have extra picks in the next two years), I certainly wouldn't say that you don't have the draft capital necessary to jump up. Especially considering that the rest of your roster is arguably not that bad.

I hope you and them are correct. The higher the pick the better.

It could be. I thought there was an extra pick this year for it in that trade. But I could be wrong.

I don’t personally want to pay through the nose, like 2 firsts, 2 seconds, 2 thirds and then maybe a cherry on top.

If it’s 9 + 2nd + 2nd + 3rd + 3rd. I could be swayed, I don’t really want to move back to back firsts, knowing we could be the same type of team the second year in a row. I think our two main needs are QB and OLine.

We shall see though, someone is bound to trade up to 1 since I don’t believe Chicago needs a QB.

Still can't believe how much they f***ed over the Seahawks and the Lions with this insane scheduling for no reason whatsoever...
It’s pretty simple, Packers are a national fan base and are a way bigger draw than either Seattle or Detroit. No surprise at all that the league scheduled like they did to give them the biggest possible advantage to get in. Green Bay/San Fran will probably be the highest rated game of the wild card round, the only other match up that will draw similarly is Dallas/Tampa. I don’t think Detroit will lay over for Green Bay though and it would be great if the Lions win and f*** up the NFL’s plan.

You're right of course. What I meant to say was no reason whatsoever when comparing this decision with their official protocols, integrity of the game and all that... And agreed, go Lions!

I think it would cost a lot more than that to move up to #1. Chicago will get a haul ( I don't think they can move on from Fields really at this point either.)

But I understand not wanting to do it. I am not sure I would want my team to do it either. But the problem is that IMO your roster is too good to really tank for Caleb or any QB really and I am not sure that the organisation is patient enough to let a guy like Levis sit for a year and properly develop him. So there is a decent chance that you will most likely be in exactly the same position a year from now but you will have wasted a good year of the young studs like Burns or Horn. But yeah next years QB class might be a bit better and deeper so I understand waiting. But I fully expect Williams to land in Tampa or LA anyways if McVay/Brady/Stafford leave. There will probably a few more "older" teams be in the tanking mix as well. Raiders after they move on from Carr. Saints are a possibility.Maybe even the Ravens if Lamar is a goner (I could see the Panthers trade for him or Carr as well. But that probably wouldn't be much cheaper than trading up for #1). Will be interesting to see what happens in Carolina in this offseason. Hope things go well for you guys.

Part of me wants to do it, but I also think we need to hang onto some picks because we need to develop an offensive line. If we can get #1 for say 5 picks or less, then sure. I think it might be worth it. But if they want firsts in back to back years, I think that’s where it get dicey.

My fear also is that we trade for Carr, I think he’s just joining the long line of mediocre QBs. And they clearly hasn’t worked for us.

There IMO is almost no way that Carter goes #1 to the Bears. IMO there is a 95 % chance that 1/2 will be Young/Stroud or Stroud/Young (Colts jumping up makes the most sense with the Bears still landing one of Anderson or Carter). And I wouldn't be shocked if Levis is gone before the Eagles pick as well.

I agree but I'm not complicating things with trades atm.

Disappointing we didn't take care of business in NO to make it better, but I'll take a Top 10 pick

@JojoTheWhale now that it's set in stone, who are a few players Howie should be targeting at 10? (no trades)

DBs require coaches' tape to have any clue, so I don't yet have a functional opinion outside of scheme fits on those guys that play on teams other than Georgia, TCU, and a scant few players I've snagged some games of via other teams. In no order, that means Witherspoon (Illinois), Porter (Penn St), Jones (TAMU), Smith (S Carolina), Phillips (Utah), and Williams (Cuse) are all giant question marks. I don't think Gonzalez (Oregon) is a scheme fit sadly.

Anderson and Carter have no shot at lasting. I don't think Branch is a top 10 type of Safety.

The short list today would be Murphy, Bresee, and Quentin Johnson. And of course trading down is always good by me. I'm disappointed Jared Verse stayed at FSU, because he would have been perfect and probably available.

A whole lot of people are higher on Tyree Smith than I am right now, but testing could change my mind there. I want to see the 10yd split on his 40 in particular. He looks slow off the ball for an EDGE to me. If you can't beat OTs clean to their outside shoulder in the NFL, you're either a Bosa level outlier or your upside is capped. That's exactly why I hated the Barnett pick.
