1. There was some behind-the-scenes powerplay against Howie.

NFL reseeds after each round. If either the Cowboys or Lions lose in round 1, we wouldn't be scheduled to see the Niners until the conference finals.

Yet how they continue to allow teams with an inferior record that win their division to host playoff games is absurd. A team even getting in at 8-9 or 7-10 because they play in a terrible division is enough of a gift.
