If the Eagles win out (vs. Giants, vs. Cardinals, at Giants) and the Cowboys win out (at Dolphins, vs. Lions, at Commanders), both teams finish 13-4. They remain deadlocked after first four tiebreakers: head-to-head record, division record, common-game record and conference record.

Eagles would then likely own tiebreaker for strength of victory, although it's not mathematically impossible today for the Cowboys to overtake them.

Realistically, Dallas must overcome a tougher rest-of-season schedule to make up a game in the final three weeks in order to win the NFC East.

If the NFL playoffs were still 6 teams making it in each conference I wouldn't bet money on the Eagles even making it.

I gotta be entirely honest… I don’t even know where to point the finger right now. I’ve never been more disheartened by an Eagles team in the regular season.

Jalen Hurts looks like he can’t read a defense to save his life. Is that what is causing the issues with playcalling? Or is the bigger issue with the playcalling? And if so is that Johnson or Sirianni?

And on defense, is it all the washed bums in our LB/secondary corps or is it the calls?

I really don’t know.

Lot of soul searching that needs to be done by this team.

Yeah it’s a chicken or egg type of thing

So how does this get fixed? Can it be done by the time playoffs roll around? If not, can it be done in the offseason? If not, has the window closed and it’s a long term thing?

I'd guess that if the people currently in the room haven't figured it out yet, they aren't capable of figuring it out. They're getting absolutely smoked by Dallas or the niners in the divisional round

To say I'm livid is an understatement. Not only did they lose to the Seahawks - again - but my entire Fantasy Football season was riding on the Eagles offense, mostly Swift, AJ Brown and Hurts. I had three Best Ball lineups alive and well, at minimum all I need was 11pts from Swift to advance one of them to Round 2, but God Forbid we get one of our best playmaker more involved when the QB has been sick all week. I hope they realize teams have figured their Matt Canada-esque offense out, and unless they change and get some more movement and creativity, and get Hurts to check his ego, they're going nowhere real fast. And I know Sirianni is far from the hot seat, but I truly look forward to the day he gets fired. I had a bad feeling about the coordinator hires before the season started, and all my fears are coming to fruition as other teams get more tape.

Their offense is infuriating. They don't play a humble game any more.

Didn't see any matchup stats but it looks like they're now 0 for their last 7 against Seattle, last win coming in 2008.

Someone needs to let them know reputation doesn't win games. Jalen got the bag has to try and play hero ball instead of making smart plays.

I’m not seeing an inability to read a defense. I’m seeing a habit formed that because he has so few easy throws designed, he waits for all these plays to develop, and his instinct is to just hurl balls down field and have the skill guys make plays on the ball. He has guys underneath but he doesn’t even look there unless that’s the design.

yeah that’s not what I’m seeing at all. I’m seeing a QB who is slow through his progressions, missing easy reads and getting tunnel vision for AJB constantly.

They don’t seem to scheme them. There’s nothing in this offense for running backs and very little for the tight end. There’s no quick routes or hot reads. There’s hardly anyone ever in motion. Everything is slow developing and down field, lots of low-percentage. I know all the talking heads are talking about checkdowns and playing underneath. How about a crossing route or a mesh concept? A curl route maybe.

A few common talking points in the fanbase at large and how they illustrate a complete disconnect from what the offense did last year:

  • They're dead last in Motion%. They were last year too.
  • They don't use TEs. Goedert has been targeted slightly more times per game this year than last.
  • Johnson doesn't call shorter routes. Hurts is at 8.6 Air Yards/Attempt. Last year was 8.3. That's functionally equivalent.

It's the same offense. The only major difference is that Hurts isn't a top tier runner.

The basis of their scheme is Inside Zone, RPOs, and ROs out of the Gun. I think everyone understands that Read Options only work if your QB is a running threat, but the same is true for their entire running game. To base yourself in Gun in the NFL and expect to keep running the ball particularly well, you need to threaten the edges with your QB. The scheme is based on a numbers advantage. Hurts' legs allowed them to be at one. They no longer do. Maybe he got hurt in camp and hasn't been healthy from day one. I have no idea. Hell, it would make sense. But that's the big difference.

Now blame the coaching staff for failing to make changes to the scheme by the middle of December and I'm completely on board. But don't tell me any of these schematic complaints are new.
