I think Hurts holding the ball is by design, they run a lot of deep routes, the offense seems to be pound the ball and take a shot downfield.
He's also been coached not to turn the ball over, when in doubt scramble or eat it.
Which makes sense when you have a power running game, a top defense and you have the lead.
But that means he's often holding the ball, waiting for a receiver to come open on deep routes, and doesn't generally force it into double coverage.
