Other Sports: Philadelphia 76ers, 2024-25: Countdown to April

I don't have a subscription to that rag, so is the plot here that eventually the flyers would move into whatever new arena they are 50% partners of? Or is this going to be strictly a basketball arena that would be used for 76ers and WNBA team?

If Flyers stay at Wells Fargo alone, I assumed they would try for a PWHL team in the future

All the Inquirer article said was that the 76ers and Comcast Spectacor would work towards a new stadium in South Philly

This guy says the plan is to demolish Wells Fargo Center

"
Ryan Boyer, president of the Philadelphia Building & Construction Trades Council, told NBC10's Lauren Mayk that instead, the team plans to demolish Wells Fargo Center and will eventually build a new arena in South Philadelphia for the team.

"We actually get more jobs," Boyer said. "For the building trades, this is good news."

However, Philadelphia City Councilmember at-large, Jim Harrity, said he was disappointed in the surprise move. In fact, he said, he felt "bamboozled."

"I feel completely bamboozled,” Harrity said. "I'm not going to forget this... I feel they not only bamboozled me but bamboozled the citizens of Philadelphia and I’m not going to forget that.”

i included the last part because i like the word bamboozled

Blind truly leading the blind between the josh harris fanboys and city council

Speaking of the Wells Fargo Center, aren't the naming rights up this year?

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence by the way that this breaks the morning of an eagles playoff game

City hasn’t really won a championship since these teams got buddy buddy. I’m here for it.

I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that to my knowledge Lurie and the Eagles haven’t been apart of their plans.

I hope Pete goes under one day. Absolute scum bag. My cousin worked for him when he was in high school & that was when Pete would make his workers kick up a percentage of their tips to him.

That guy truly deserves the worst.

The Ed Snider Memorial Arena and Culture Club for Hockey Players and Basketball Players and people that do other things good to Stadium.

Incredible level of scumbaggery. I know that has been illegal in NJ for quite a while. Hopefully it is in PA too now.

I hope they are demolishing the Wells Fargo Center and the flyers move out also. All that money that Comcast just sunk into redesigning that arena. Crossing Broad is saying its scheduled for 2031

Gotta love that Chickie’s Tax.

Scumbag.

Nobody in the Northeast that actually knows him has anything good to say about him.

Yeah he got in trouble for it & had to go back & pay some back. But it probably was a drop in the bucket & didn’t compare to what he actually stole all that time.

1) There will be a new combination basketball + hockey arena built in South Philly ahead of the 2031 season that is going to be a 50/50 partnership between HBSE and Comcast. The deal was essentially revisited at the last minute with Brian Roberts leading the charge, not Dan Hilferty, and it included more of what the Sixers were looking for when initially proposed. It sounds to me like Comcast conceded more at the final moment in terms of building management and scheduling. 2) Comcast will join a Sixers bid for a WNBA expansion team. Sources explained it to me as the Sixers leading that effort and Comcast having a stake in it. 3) With 76 Place out of the picture, both the Sixers and Comcast will partner on a more generic redevelopment project for Market Street, obviously not including a sports venue. 4) RE: Union labor, they’re actually going to get two jobs now, one, building this new arena in South Philly and two, working on these Market Street projects. 5) Renewed conversations between Comcast and the Sixers did not start until after Christmas, and this agreement wasn’t finished until the last 72 hours. Despite getting City Council approval, they still had a couple of hoops to jump through before starting with demolition.

Scumbag.

My work had a business venture with him. It just naturally didn’t work out. But the higher ups that dealt with him they’re not really from the area. So they had no idea how much of a jerkoff he is. But they learned through the process. They were happy to cut ties with him after actually dealing with him.

How the hell did we end up in a place where I’m more confident in a Crossing Broad story than the Inquirer?

I just hope it doesn't end up with viewing angles like the brooklyn arena.

Seperate arena thread for those that don't care about the 76ers?

Fabulous. So happy for the community that was blatantly getting f***ed over

Does anyone even use the Gallery anymore? Only reason I'd walk through there was to get to R2L and the chef closed that place lol

I used to use it to walk from 8th & Market to Market East (or vice versa) to change train lines. But it's been years since I don't work in the city anymore.
Another pass througher... that place is so dead

Still, I'm sure Comcast will find a way to make it worse

So let me get this straight. Comcast spectacor owned the flyers and sixers and their stadium, dumped $400m into their stadium, sold the sixers, and now are going to demolish their stadium to now only own half of it?

Huge L
