As long as his hands stay sharp, his game should age well. Just plant him in front of the net on the powerplays and let him work.

7m for someone that was completely sheltered last year and did the majority of his work on the pp lol... Yikes.

7 million isn't great for years 4-5 of this deal.

But for the first 2-3 years it's fine. Not a steal, but not awful.

What good Dman is available?

Enstrom? Orpik? Sbisa?

Like seriously, the D are awful. But maybe signing JVR fir free, frees up another player to be traded for a Dman.

Who knows.

Didn't mean in Free Agency, just could of used the cap space for a defenceman. But maybe Hagg/Sanheim/Morin help them out.

I don’t think that JVR has a case of getting what Coutoure got so I see 6.5-7. 5-6 years

I think he scores 30 the next two years and 20 two years after that. Hes never been a speedy player, so there shouldnt be a worry about that going away.

i'm still a big fan of him, but i'm an even bigger fan of not committing to him long-term

This was Dubas’ first UFA test. I like JvR but did not want him back at all. We can get 30-36 goals from Johnsson and Kapanen combined. 2 birds, one stone. No more Martin in lineup, Johnsson and Kapanen get a chance in the top nine permanently and Brown isn’t stuck on the fourth line.

Glad he got his payday, really glad it wasn't with the Leafs! Good luck, JVR! I hope for the sanity of Flyers fans he commits more to playing defense now that he's got his contract.

Great while it lasted but there are other players in the system that can take his spot for less money.

Will miss jvrs tips and front of the net play. Will not miss his laziness and poor 2way play.

Also he needs to thank Marner for running that pp and allowing him to bag so many goals.

7m is kinda high for him.... Good luck philly!

7 million is a big cap hit, probably more than JVR is worth. Still, Flyers are probably eating a higher AAV in order to reduce the total years (5 years is very OK considering he is 29)... and when aren't good-but-not-elite FAs overpaid? Time will tell whether this turns out OK for Philly or not.

At least it’s not 6 or 7 years. Horrendous backchecker, but elite in front of the net.

Hypothetical of course.

I would not be surprised if Simmonds is moved now and JVR just takes his PP spot.
