Pheonix Copley of North Pole, AK...The Copulator is legit

Yeah no one is saying he’s a bad goalie, he’s just nothing more than average at best.
Average is the wrong word.
He is rock solid and this is all you need from your starter.
It's just the way he plays. He uses his size and sits down in butterfly deflecting the shots to the side while covering huge portions of the net.
There is no need for those super acrobatic throw the body around saves.
The whole team feels more comfortable with him in net.

To be successful as a team, it's enough to have a goalie who saves the shots he should save.
Everything else is bonus.
17-3 is not lying

yeah and again...I'm ot at all trying to poopoo Copley here.

I'm just trying to say imagine what the Kings would be doing with a Saros, etc.
I guess he would be 17-2 instead 17-3 maybe or maybe not
What's the difference

That will always be the debate with Copely

Is he

1) The latest reclaimation goalie that our org shined in to a diamond
or
2) An average goalie showing us how bad Cal and Quick have been

Yes.

Lots of Kings goalie talk after about 10 minutes.

Interesting stuff there regarding the Kings goalies this year and the potential fit of Vejmelka in their system. Anyone who thinks Copley is elite and MVP type great goalie should listen to it (stats say otherwise -- he's average or slightly below average per detailed stats). I'm a fan of Copley and wanted him playing early this season -- but i'm not too much of a blind fan to not see the facts. Comparatively (to Quick/Cal) is the only way that Copley is elite. But he's been a HUGE benefit and lift to this team giving them that average/solid goalie performance.

For Vejmelka, lots of unknowns whether he fits into the Kings system due to such a big difference in how each team plays, defensive system (AZ gives up many shots compared to very little to Kings, types of shots given up different, etc.). Not to mention his performance in tight games and stress, etc. is both so-so and a bit unknown due to AZ's crappy team.

The CSA numbers on Vejmelka when the Coyotes are up 1 were really interesting to me. One of the best at making saves then.

His middling numbers on low- and medium-danger shots are concerning, though. Kings give up lots of low- and medium-danger shots, and Copley is also a guy who does better on high-danger chances than low- or medium-danger chances.

Interesting what was said about Korpisalo there at the very end.

He'd be cheap too.
A buddy and I were talking about him being a good trade target for the Kings last week. But the Kings can't be paying 4 goaltenders NHL money. That's insane. Quick needs to start winning games.

My 'concern' with him isn't that he's bad, honestly. I'm happy for him and for us. But he's not gonna win a Cup.

The road to the Final is absolutely littered with Brian Elliotts that failed their awesome teams in Round 2, guys who were perfectly adequate through 40 regular season games, but 7 games vs. an elite opponent means .900 isn't enough.

That doesn't make me some sort of myopic hater or whatever dumb bullshit insults keep getting hurled at people that are actually supporting their opinions, I'd LOVE to see some evidence that he's more than what we're suggesting. Edit: Beyond his record because otherwise I'll present Budaj, Jones, Scrivens. Easy.
That's what we have Quick for.

Thanks to last night, we all have a great new joke.

Next time some wrongs you, say something like "I'm about to go full Pheonix Copely on you"

Back home in Alaska
he always protected his net
his fishing net
He fought bears in Alaska.
Maybe even a Polar bear or two
on icebergs when he was really on
and eskimos
with knives
finally he fought but was abducted by aliens from Antarctica
and placed in the minor leagues
until the Ukranians sold him to Blake
Win #20 for the Copulator tonight.
Set new team record as fastest to reach 20 wins in a season in only 30 GP.
He did it in 28 games, Quick in 30

He’s done great, no doubt. Having another in form netminder should hope mean a bit less pressure both physically and mentally for him also.

I’m not comparing the number of games it’s taken to Quick though because he has a much better team in front of him. That said to do so in 28 games is outstanding stuff.

He's been pretty steady for us and has a good calm presence in the locker room. I am hoping he sticks as a steady 1A/Backup for several seasons here to give us something to lean on while we figure out the rest at the position.

I'd like to see Korpisalo in net vs the Avs. It's been repeated many times on the broadcasts that he was traded for to compete for the starting position. I'm sure Copley will get more starts, but it's not going to be some Copley / Quick starting ratio. If Korpisalo plays like he has this entire season, I expect he'll start the playoffs.
