The notion that, in 2022, the AHL is some wild west goon league is so laughably outdated. I watch the AHL probably just as much as, if not more than the NHL anymore. I have a 12 game season ticket package for the Bears for the second year in a row and haven't seen a fight in person in a year and a half (granted there was one in a game I couldn't attend last season). Scrums are usually once or twice a game at most and get broken up by the refs in 5 seconds or less. There is a recent rule that suspends players after their tenth fight of the season. It's not even as intense as it was 10-15 years ago.

Do they have a full time NHLer yet?

Unlike some of the other NCAA powers, program is only in its 10th season at the D1 level.

Much like they did at Princeton, the coaching staff built a winning program built on speed - playing a freewheeling style that is fun to play (Penn State routinely outshoots opponents by wide margin).

At the same time, many of their top players have been smaller players or older recruits who may have been overlooked by NHL scouts for one reason or another.

Speaking of undersized players, Gendron has 12 goals in 13 games in his D+1 season in the Q.
At 5'9 174, he'll probably end up in the 190 lb range in a few years, so he's a "full sized smurf."

Question like McClennon will be how much he can improve his skating, the offensive skill package is there, but there's not a lot of roles for an offense first, undersized forward who can't skate.
