Exact opposite of what I was expecting from Lardbarbs tonight. He was pretty good. Quick really isn't himself this year, I say give him some seat time to recoup and let Bernier bear the brunt for awhile...

Knew we would lose this game after not scoring on Pillows in the first few minutes off that sequence of two or three quality chances.

Coyotes suck. They won't make the playoffs. At least there's that?

They may not even be in PHX after this season. That would be great, Hate Tippet and that team.

lol at the Ellerby blaming.

1st goal, he had his guy pinned against the boards. It's when the second forward came in to take the puck, that Richards was covering, that the puck was taken by the Coyotes. Martinez was just hanging around at the side of the net.

2nd goal was Toffoli letting Lombardi get the inside position. And Quick overplaying the puck.

3rd goal... I turned off the game at that point and didn't even bother with the replay. But I do recall hearing "he spun away from Martinez" 15 seconds before the goal was scored.

A-Mart is earning his trip to Sutter's doghouse. A-Mart is just struggling as well after an injury.

Never gonna happen.

Like I said, they've taken notes from the Vancouver debacle. No way that's gonna happen here. Want and what will happen are two different things. Yeah Bernier should play a little more, but he's not going to.

It worked out pretty well for Montreal and their Price/Halak controversy.

Play the goalie that's winning games, worry about trade value later.

I predict a LOLbarbera shutout. Because that's the Kings' way.

Too easy.

Not quite a shutout, but still.

Garbage game, sort of expected, not too mad. Let the Cryotes enjoy their stanley cup :P

Those guys and the fans were going NUTS on every goal against. You can tell how big a deal this game was to them. Now they can go out and lose the next 5 straight :P

Also, I hope I never see a yotes fan complain about diving like, ever.

A few common sports reasons for this loss tonight:

1. already securing 7 out of a possible 8 points knowing the trip was already a success.. a common letdown scenario---similar to a baseball series when the road team takes the first 2 games, usually some case of phoning it in in the 3rd game.

2. looking ahead to coming home... the last game of a trip is always mentally a tough one for the team.

And i'll agree with some points already made:
--Martinez: not the same player we saw in the playoffs, definitely struggling post injury
--Ellerby: a few steps forward followed by a few steps back. The minute i give the guy props, the minute i see him out there being all unconfident/shaky again
--Quick: DEFINITELY not the same goalie that we've had from the last 3 years, I get that we're trying to get him back on track but at what point does Sutter look at the stats, and watch tape to just see that Bernier is the better goalie right now... This is a shortened season, we don't have much time to see if we'll get our old quickie back.

It was fourth game in six nights, all on the road with a lot of travel between games. So it was expected that energy probably won't be there.

Before this 5 away games I hoped for 50% of points (5 points) and to stay inside play-off places. They managed 7 points with great performances with last game exception with good point difference to non play-off places, so nothing to complain there.

Now schedule is much more normal till the end of regular season, with not travel heavy away games with one exception (back-to-back in Minnesota and Detroit) and majority of games at home.

They survived this march schedule in very good condition.

Quick was not the reason we lost, but him giving up a soft goal a game is definitely becoming an issue.

For sure, but that's not the only thing that's an issue. His style of play seems off. He's been over committing on saves and has been flopping around way more than normal. I seen him rolling around in the crease a couple of times tonight... it was interesting.

I don't know if it's mental or injury related, but I hope he finds his game soon. Sutter seems intent on playing him and no doubt he's earned that right. At the same time, Bernier has looked real good.. calm, poised and in control. The difference this year has really been night and day between the two of them.

I like people blaming Quick when the Kings couldn't put up more than 1 on Labs.

The thing is though, it's not like LA didn't have their chances. You have to give credit where its due and Labs made a number of big saves. If the team was just skating around with their dicks in their hands, then the whole 1 goal thing would be appropriate.

I don't think Quick deserves all the blame, but I do think the 2nd and especially the 3rd were on him. No doubt Toffoli could've tied up his man better, but that shot was weak, imo at least. Martinez for sure was a total idiot on the sequence that led to the 3rd goal, but the goal itself was all on Quick.

Quick played well enough for us to win. Wasn't great but the team in front needs more than 1 goal against a guy we ran out of town. Like others are saying, 7 of 10.

Really sloppy game. Williams scored a lucky goal and then it looked like the forwards saw LOLbarbera in goal and decided they didn't need to get to the net to score goals.

Exactly. Very happy with the road trip. Just argh..Coyotes.

Figures our team has enough juice to run thru Chicago, a point in Minny, STL, and Dallas, and just hits the wall in Phoenix.

What was that though, 4 games in 6 nights on the road, crossing several time zones? After the March travel? Earning those other big points makes a mess like last night excusable, imo. That game was absolute slop by both teams, and Tippett can't be happy with how his team looked...they just sucked less.

It's a tricky situation. I would play them 50/50 for the regular season. I would not play Bernier in the playoffs.

I don't think Quick is hurt either. Hurt is when you minimize movement, stop playing the puck, etc. Quick's moving just the same as he used to. I think he is playing through pain after surgery at about 85%.

i.e. overplaying / sliding / out of position / scrambles to get back (too late)
