I don't mind the value of the deal. It's a little high, but not a massive overpay.

I also don't get the focus on his 4 goals last year. He shot 5% from the 4th line, where in the previous couple seasons he was shooting 12 - 15%. At his previous average shooting percentages that 8 - 10 goals which seems pretty normal for a 4C. How many goals do people expect from a 4C? It's as if people want 20 goals from everyone which is just unrealistic. Recency bias is so extreme around here, when he could very easily get back to shooting 12 - 15%, and not 5%.

I think the end of season run on the 3rd line is fresh in everyone's heads. He had disappointing counting stats during that part of the season, even if he was playing fine. He also started the year horrendously and was often the worst player on the ice. I just don't see who he can beat out for top 9 minutes. I know everyone wants to bag on Greenway, but Krebs cannot sniff his jock in terms of value on the ice, outside of his ability to play center.

I'm getting towards the end of my rope with Krebs and thinking he's going to be more than he is. In my eyes, he's not even really a good 4th line center at this point. Hopefully with some more competent coaching, he can get back to having some value. While Granato was the magic elixir for a lot of guys, he just couldn't unlock Krebs' game. Perhaps there's nothing to unlock however. This season will be very telling.

I think he did well when he kept his game simple, playing the dump and chase game with Gus and Okposo. He falls back into his bad habits though and tries to play like he's in junior again which we know doesn't work in the NHL. I think Lindy will keep him on a shorter leash which should help his consistency. If he embraces the role he could be a solid bottom 6 player, especially with his willingness to play the body which some of our younger guys shy away from. He's gotta focus on improving at the dot too.

I'm less worried about his goal total last year and more concerned about his ineffectiveness on any line and lack of progress since becoming a full time NHLer.

Maybe he puts it together but it will take more than a couple gritty practices.

"not in a frame of mind where he wanted anyone to think that he didn't want to be in Buffalo"

That is a bloated and confusing way to say "he didn't want anyone to think that he didn't want to be in Buffalo". Or even: "he wanted people to think that he wanted to be in Buffalo"

Still don't know how that marries with Adams' statement(s) that Krebs' agent/team was the one holding things up.

I was originally going to say that last sentence put my mind in a pretzel but thought I might be too stupid to figure it out.. Glad a professor agrees it was a confusing sentence lol.

Probably wanted a longer contract.

How'n the hell is this not other than purely delightful?

This has been a chip in player, whose chips are in, and who's now commissioned to go for it.

I’d love to see Ruff get Krebs fully bought in to playing a more simple north-south game without so many of his risky passes.

Some perspective on Krebs/contract/13F

21-22, Bjork was 13F making $1.6
22-23, Hinostroza was 13F making $1.7
23-24, Jost was 13F making $2.0

We're on the right track, I'm happy with the contract and his upside/versatility as 13F

I don’t think he’s being gifted anything. He’s a hard worker with a lot of skill. I think it’s more likely that you aren’t able to assess these players, which is why your opinions are almost always wrong.
Well this is unfortunate. Maybe your opinions are almost always wrong, and you don't know how to assess these players. Krebs was never making the starting lineup.

It’s a long season
I would expect to see Krebs quite a bit
Ruff may have fluid roster

Krebs won 6 of 7 faceoffs tonight.
8 of 14 against Chicago.

Seems like he has really put the work in to improve in this area.

I remember when he was in Rochester they didn't want him losing faceoffs so he was intentionally getting thrown out of the dot so he wouldn't have to take them.

Lindy loved Curtis Brown and I think Krebs could have that kind of career/role on the team. Krebs just seems like a Lindy kind of player and is going to keep getting better. He doesn't have any of the high-end physical qualities like size and speed but he just brings it every practice, every game. No reason why he couldn't have a role on this team for years to come.

He's now 30th in the league among guys with 50 or more draws at 56.4%. Seems he's finding a niche, even if the numbers aren't there. Lindy seems to use him as a bit of a utility knife - pops him around the lineup to get some lines going, most of the heinous turnovers are gone (most, I did not say all). Perhaps he's embracing what his old coach said about the league sorting guys to where they should be?
