Must be near the best game played by any Canuck in history. And the thing is Pettersson has put together several games nearing this level in other games this season. Game shows the distance between him and the rest of the players on the team. Without him out the points suddenly begin to dry up for others such as Horvat, Miller and even Hughes.
Good
Pettersson - best player in any category you want to consider
Kuzmenko - if you want to resign this player to anything like a cap friendly contract get him away from Pettersson. Effort combined with talent in this game.
Pederson - helped by playing with Pettersson but showed off good turn of speed and moved puck well.
Bad
Horvat - sluggish and getting little done. Reaching a lot and made a horrible line change on the 4th goal against.
Miller - looks gassed all the time. Too many turnovers and poor passes. You wonder if he is in good enough shape. Dies at the end of every shift and looks too bagged to compete.
Schenn - big drop off in his game likely result of injury. Not moving well enough to cover people in his zone or to get in position to make passes
OEL - way too often reacting late to situations. Doesn't move well enough off the puck to give an outlet to defensive partner or option for forwards when the team cycles the puck. Looks to be avoiding contact.
Hughes - popgun shot isn't getting through and he keeps banging shots off pads. Poor on the 2 on 1s and slow around his net. In general our defense remains a disaster.
Aman - his line was backed up in their zone for most of its shifts. Doubtful that Aman can create any offense at all. Think Allvin and co. want to get credit for getting a player but he is not, ATM, NHL standard. Coverage is becoming increasingly worse. Likely they should give him time in Abby and bring Podkolzin up and shift Lazar back to center. Really our 4th line is one of the worst in the League. Last years was obviously better and present management needs to be criticized here.
Martin - Seattle could easily have scored more open net goals. Martin has to settle down and not get pulled so badly out of position. Tough on him since the defense is giving up so many chances and allowing other team to control their zone. However, won the shoot out.
Others
Garland - trying to do it by himself and given play of line mates can't blame him. Trouble is he is off on his own and team play breaks down. (-3 was indicative of that) He was, however, dragging the team back into the fight and he did create some good chances. Finding the right line mates for him remains a problem
Myers - kind of like Garland - lot of running around trying to compensate for poor play in defensive zone. Sometimes this allows him to break up plays and get puck out of his zone. Also leads to to forced play and bad turnovers. In the right situation Myers could be an effective player. But given the poor defensive play of the forwards. a player like Myers is left groping.
Thought Burroughs and Stillman were better than you could have expected. Stillman got caught up ice a couple of times but duo had decent shifts and were likely better than some of the d-men combos.
