Peterborough Petes 2024 25 Season Thread Part Ii

Not a clue but I'll take a stab at it..........Maybe the earlier 3rd pick is 50th overall and so the conditional 15th round pick is improved to a 10th if the future 3rd round pick is 55th or worse? Something like that maybe.

Also, I have no idea when or how the Petes got Erie's 3rd in 2025 to trade to Sarnia?
I checked the draft pick database and it's listed under Erie........doesn't make any sense.
Anyone have any idea?
It looks like it was a conditional in an Erie-London trade (Liam Gilmartin) before the 22-23 season but it shouldn't have transferred because it was conditional on an OA year, and he didn't play an OA year.

Even if it did, I don't see how it would've gotten to Peterborough, the only trade I could see there was the Simpson-Bowen trade, which had a 2025 third, but it was pretty clearly Kingston's 3rd.

My guess is there was some kind of conditional trade but I don't see any other Erie conditional trades.

Could the conditional pick be a place holder for a player that can't be traded at the moment?

Feels like there has to be more to this trade. The Erie 3rd round pick would have been the Petes best pick in the 3rd round, why move that pick just to improve a 10th round pick to an 8th round pick?

Peterborough and Erie made a draft pick trade a few years back before the draft that involved Peterborough acquiring a conditional pick. Later that summer Peterborough acquired Lockhart and that conditional pick went back to Erie.

Who on Sarnia would be worthy of being a somewhat impact addition for us? Isn’t Sarnia just as young and rebuilding like the Petes

So London gets a 2025 third from Kitchener and gives them a 2026 third and a 2027 fifth. Yet the petes move a better third and don’t get the same return doesn’t make sense why they wouldn’t do a deal with London to get a better return

You may have something there...........let the guessing begin!

Interesting. My guess would be Daylen Moses.

Looking at Sarnia here are some OA options:

Mitch Young (LD) 6'2" 190lbs 45 pts, 60g
Easton Wainwright (C) 5'10" 190lbs 44 pts, 65g
Daylyn Moses (RW) 6'2" 180lbs 17 pts, 60g

I'm getting Goldilocks vibes here.
Young is too hot
Moses is too cold
but Wainwright is just right!

Wainwright seems like a good fit.......he wore an "A" for the Sting so I would expect he is a character guy with leadership qualities.
He would play as a 1C/2C, lengthen the depth at centre and help spark the offense of the younger forwards.
Young would be a great add, but he would be too costly IMO.

Wainwright reminds me of a previous centre from the Sting that the Petes acquired early in his OA season.
Daniel Nikandrov went to the Petes for a 3rd and 5th round pick early in the 2015-2016 season.
He had 49pts in 68g the previous year and started the season as the Sting captain before being dealt to the Petes.

Just throwing darts for now.......looking forward to Friday night.
I would expect Oke still plans on dealing one of his 2nds before Friday.

My galaxy brain idea is this has something to do with Masen Johnston to Sarnia in a bigger deal for a player. Sarnia lacks a true goalie of the future and Masen brother Kaden is familiar with the Sarnia organization.

🤯

Funny......I was thinking about the Petes goalie situation

Bowen (OA)
Rye (2006)
Lee-Stack (2007) Dylan Lee-Stack - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
Johnston (2007).......great stats in OJHL and OHL Masen Johnston - Stats, Contract, Salary & More
Gelinas (2008) ........played with the U18 Petes and they like him

With this depth the Petes trade Bowen for sure and dealing one of the 2007s makes sense as well.
Masen Johnston would have more trade value for sure and I totally forgot about the Sarnia connection......nice catch @Petes !

If lee stack gets drafted does he automatically get a spot on the team.
He is the 30th ranked NA goalie for the NHL draft and only nine NA goalies were selected in last year's NHL draft so I doubt he gets drafted.
I'm sure there are some OHL teams that would be interested in a 2007 goalie........
  • who is ranked 30th in NA for draft eligible goalies (Lee-Stack) or
  • a 2007 goalie that had a 0.912 SV% with a 2.42 GAA in 10 games in the OJHL as well as a 0.910 SV% with a 3.22 GAA in 5 OHL games (Johnston)
A tough spot for the Petes with Johnston having OHL experience and being a local guy while Lee-Stack is a highly thought of young goalie by people in the know. IMO they need to capitalize on this depth and turn one of these goalies into a solid 2006 forward who is a likely OA candidate for the 2026-2027 season.

Thought's on Maleek McGowan as an OA option? I was very impressed with him every time we played Kingston. He skates very well and we had trouble getting out of our own end often last year.
I'd love to see him with the Petes. He was one of my favourite players to watch the past couple of years. Great skater and brings some offence, which would be helpful so it's not all on Cameron (though the younger d-men will keep developing).

One of the coaches favorite players. Would be very difficult for Coop to get rid of him.
